Opening of the National Karate Club Championship

On July 13, at the Dak Lak Provincial Sports Gymnasium, the Vietnam Sports Administration (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism) coordinated with the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Dak Lak province to open the 25th National Karate Club Championship in 2025.

The tournament attracted 823 athletes from 57 clubs from provinces, cities and sectors across the country. Athletes competed for 91 sets of medals in the following categories: Individual Kata (performance) for men and women; Team Kata for men and women; Mixed Team Kata for men and women; Individual Kumite (combat) for men and women; Team Kumite for men and women in the age groups of 10 - 11, 12 - 14, 15 - 17, over 18 and over 35.

In his opening speech, Mr. Tran Hong Tien, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Dak Lak province, Head of the Organizing Committee, said that the tournament is an important sporting event to test and evaluate the training and coaching of athletes and to find young talents. This is also an opportunity for athletes to exchange, learn and improve their professional skills. For the tournament to be successful, Mr. Tran Hong Tien requested that the referees conduct the tournament objectively, fairly and in accordance with the law; and that athletes compete with a spirit of honesty, solidarity, nobility and strict compliance with the regulations.

Speaking to reporters, Mr. Vu Son Ha, Head of the Karate Department (Vietnam Sports Department), President of the Southeast Asian Karate Federation shared that this is the first national Karate tournament after the merger of provinces and cities and the operation of the 2-level local government model, with a large number of participating athletes. The tournament's participants include national team athletes, national youth teams and first-line athletes from provinces, cities and sectors. Thereby, it is affirmed that the professional quality of the tournament is very high. Through the tournament, the Karate Department (Vietnam Sports Department) and the coaching staff of the teams will replace, supplement, discover and select excellent athletes to prepare the next generation for the 33rd SEA Games taking place in December 2025 and the 2027 Asiad.

The tournament is scheduled to close on July 18.
