On the evening of September 27th, at the pedestrian area around Hoan Kiem Lake (Hoan Kiem District, Hanoi ), the Hanoi Book Fair 2024, themed "Hanoi: Capital of Culture and Heroism - City for Peace," officially opened.
The Book Fair is an event celebrating the 70th anniversary of the Liberation of Hanoi and the 25th anniversary of Hanoi being honored by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) as a "City for Peace". The event is directed by the Hanoi People's Committee in coordination with the Ministry of Information and Communications ; and implemented by the Hanoi Department of Information and Communications, the Hanoi Youth Union, and the Publishing, Printing and Distribution Department.
In his opening remarks, Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Ha Minh Hai emphasized that since its inception in 2014, the Hanoi Book Fair has continuously affirmed its mission in honoring reading culture and building a learning society. The Book Fair has become an important cultural event, contributing to deepening the thousand-year-old cultural tradition of Thang Long - Hanoi.

Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee, Ha Minh Hai, expressed his hope and belief that the Hanoi Book Fair will bring much joy to readers, creating the best conditions for them to access a rich source of knowledge to serve their lives, work, studies, and research.
Emphasizing the serious damage caused by Typhoon No. 3 to many provinces and cities nationwide, including Hanoi, and in response to the proposal of the Organizing Committee of the 9th Hanoi Book Fair, Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Ha Minh Hai called on publishers, book companies, participating units of the book fair and readers to join hands in donating books to school libraries in the outskirts of Hanoi that were severely affected by the storm and floods.
“This activity not only affirms the spirit of solidarity and mutual support within the community, but also makes a significant contribution to raising awareness, educating the younger generation, igniting a passion for learning, and creating strong motivation for them to advance on the path of knowledge. The book fair is not only a place to spread knowledge but also a spiritual support for students, helping to enhance the value of reading culture and broaden the intellectual horizons of society,” the Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee emphasized.
The 9th Hanoi Book Fair - 2024, held from September 27-29, featured the participation of nearly 30 publishers and book distributors nationwide, creating a cultural space for reading and offering many attractive book exchange and experience programs. In addition, the book fair continued to receive support and participation from several diplomatic agencies such as the embassies of Laos, Cambodia, France, and Italy.
A highlight of the 9th Hanoi Book Fair is the book exhibition themed "Hanoi: The Capital of Culture and Heroism - A City for Peace," offering readers free access to books on economics, politics, culture, military, and diplomacy from Hanoi Publishing House, as well as works about Hanoi from participating publishers and book companies.
| Many exciting events at the Hanoi Book Fair 2024 According to the Organizing Committee, within the framework of this year's Hanoi Book Fair, in addition to bringing many book titles with rich and diverse genres and attractive content, and special promotional programs, publishers and book companies will also have attractive and meaningful exchange programs, introducing readers to new works that convey a message of pride in the cultural and historical traditions of Thang Long - Hanoi in particular and Vietnam in general. Specifically, on September 28th, there will be a seminar and book launch for "Vietnamese History in Pictures" organized by Dong A Culture Joint Stock Company at 9:00 AM; a series of events including a book launch and exchange for the poetry collection "The Secret in the Garden" by author Nguyen Quoc Vuong and the essay collection "A Thousand Seasons of Flowers" by author Bang Son, organized by Vietnam Women's Publishing House at 4:00 PM; and a seminar and book launch for "The British East India Company in Tonkin (1672-1697)" organized by Hanoi Publishing House at 7:30 PM. On September 29th, there will be a book launch and exchange for "The Ho Chi Minh Trail" organized by Nhan Dan Book Trading Company Limited at 2:30 PM. |
