Opening Ceremony of the Southern Folk Music and Singing Festival in Can Tho City 2026

At Ben Ninh Kieu Park in Can Tho City, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Can Tho City recently held the opening ceremony of the 2026 Southern Folk Music and Singing Festival.

Southern Vietnamese folk songs possess a unique cultural character, closely linked to the working life of the people.

The 2026 Southern Folk Music and Singing Festival of Can Tho City will take place from now until May 19, 2026, featuring over 300 musicians and performers in 64 performances, including 20 independent contestants. The performances will encompass various genres: solo singing, duet singing, trio singing, group singing, skits, ensemble performances, and solo performances of traditional musical instruments.

Besides playing musical instruments and singing folk songs, the organizers also expanded to include other forms such as reciting poetry and excerpts from traditional plays, with themes praising the Party and beloved President Ho Chi Minh; celebrating love for the homeland and country; romantic love; and the achievements in building the homeland and country in general, and Can Tho city in particular, during the đổi mới (renovation) period.

Highlighting good examples and good deeds; building a cultured and civilized urban lifestyle… promises to bring truly attractive programs and performances to the people and tourists, contributing to a joyful atmosphere to celebrate the 136th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh's birth.

According to the organizers, Southern Vietnamese folk songs have become one of the unique forms of folk performance, closely associated with the working life and spiritual life of the people of the South, contributing to nurturing their souls.
