Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Commission Tran Thanh Lam; Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Hoang Dao Cuong; representatives of embassies of Cuba, China, Russia, Laos, Philippines; leaders of central agencies and organizations attended the event.
In his opening speech, Director of the Vietnam Fine Arts Museum Nguyen Anh Minh said that the exhibition Children of the Fatherland selected 80 works created between 1947 and 1986, using many different materials such as oil paint, lacquer, silk, paper, wood, plaster, etc.
Through the lens of many generations of artists from Indochina fine arts, resistance art to innovation and modernity, along with rich and vivid styles and visual languages, the exhibition introduces to the public the images of those who have silently devoted their youth, strength and blood to protect and build the country through works of art.
Chairman of the Vietnam Fine Arts Association Luong Xuan Doan stated: During these historic August days, memories of a fierce but heroic period of Vietnamese fine arts seem to come alive.
From the two resistance wars against France and the US to the years of national construction, generations of artists, including many who grew up at the Indochina College of Fine Arts, left behind expressive works, marking the glorious history of the nation.
These were the first revolutionary works of art, strong, authentic and imbued with patriotism. These contributions laid the foundation for the development and breakthrough of Vietnamese fine arts, creating conditions for future generations to continue, create and open up new trends.
The exhibition is an opportunity for the public to admire paintings and sculptures that both recreate the reality of combat and people's lives, and express the souls and aspirations of artists and soldiers.
Some typical works displayed at the exhibition include: Nguyen Van Troi (wood carving - Hoang Dao Khanh), Mrs. Nguyen Thi Dinh (charcoal - Diep Minh Chau), Doctor Ton That Tung during surgery at the Viet Duc Hospital tunnel (Van Duong Thanh), Cam Pha mine emulation fighter Pham Trong Thuy (Nguyen Sang), Labor heroine Nguyen Thi Khuong - Muong (Than Trong Su), Female militia on the wreckage of an American plane (Le Cong Thanh), Outpost Island (Ta Quang Bao), Cu Chi female guerrillas (Huynh Phuong Dong)...

In particular, the exhibition also brings together works by many great names in modern Vietnamese fine arts such as: Phan Ke An, Nguyen Sang, Bui Xuan Phai, Diep Minh Chau, Nguyen Sy Ngoc, Huynh Van Gam, and painters - martyrs such as Hoang Anh, Ha Xuan Phong...
Not only did they leave a deep mark in the country's fine arts, they also contributed to preserving national memories, depicting the authentic, simple yet proud beauty of the Vietnamese people.
Besides the typical characters, the exhibition honors millions of silent, anonymous people such as: navy soldiers, female guerrillas, soldiers' mothers, long-haired troops, Ap Bac women... all appear full of vitality, imbued with patriotism, leaving a deep impression of strong will and steadfast heart.
The exhibition Children of the Fatherland is open until September 10 at the Vietnam Museum of Fine Arts (66 Nguyen Thai Hoc, Hanoi).
