Parents shocked by 320,000 VND membership fee, what does the school in Phu Quoc say?

Many parents of Cua Can Secondary School (Phu Quoc, An Giang) complained that the membership fee of 320,000 VND/student was too high. The principal spoke up to explain.

Reflecting to Tuoi Tre Online, Mr. HTM - a parent whose child studies at Cua Can Primary and Secondary School (Phu Quoc) - said he felt "shocked" by the membership fee collection of 320,000 VND/student.

"If it's 320,000 VND/student, I calculate it's about 11 million VND/class. Many classes pay a large amount.

"Those who have money to pay are fine, but if the parents are in difficult circumstances, it is a problem. Teachers only say that collecting this money is voluntary, but do not clearly state what the purpose of the collection is or how it is spent," Mr. M. raised the issue.

On the afternoon of September 30, Mr. Nguyen Duc Phuc - Principal of Cua Can Primary and Secondary School informed that the school had learned about the above membership fee collection incident.

He said that at the beginning of this new school year, the school and the parents' representative committee met to review documents related to the collection of fees.

The school has implemented two collections for teachers, including the collection according to regulations and the collection from socialized education (also known as membership fees) proposed by the parents' representative committee.

When implementing this fee collection, the school has reviewed and the parents' representative board wishes to support the school in movements, competitions, rewards, and support for disadvantaged students throughout the school year...

"The school has very clear instructions on implementation but ensures it is voluntary, there are no standards, and no equal amount of money for each class.

However, when the implementation was not strict and did not follow the instructions of the school leaders, it led to unexpected misunderstandings among parents. We had a meeting with the teachers and explained to the parents about the above incident," said Mr. Phuc.

In the 2025-2026 school year, Cua Can School will have about 31 classes with an expected number of about 1,100 students (2 levels: primary and secondary school).
