Coastal tourism is accelerating strongly.
The 2026 summer tourist season presents many positive signs for Hai Phong's tourism industry. On weekends, the roads leading to the coastal tourist areas of Do Son and Cat Ba are always bustling with tourists. According to statistics from the city's tourism sector, during the Hung Kings' Commemoration Day and the April 30th - May 1st holidays in 2026, Hai Phong is estimated to welcome over 1.45 million visitors, an increase of approximately 32% compared to the same period last year; tourism revenue is estimated to reach over 1,120 billion VND. These figures show that Hai Phong's tourism is entering a new phase of development with clearer momentum.
While city tourism used to be primarily focused on short-term vacations, it is now gradually developing a diverse coastal tourism ecosystem that caters to a wider range of customer groups and new experiential trends.
After Ha Long Bay and Cat Ba Archipelago were recognized by UNESCO as a World Natural Heritage Site, the number of international tourists to Cat Ba increased sharply, especially from Europe and Northeast Asia.
During the recent four-day holiday from April 30th to May 1st, Cat Ba Island welcomed and served approximately 106,500 visitors, including over 16,300 international tourists. Besides its natural beauty, eco-tourism products, high-end resorts, marine ecological experiences, community tourism, and nightlife entertainment are increasingly attracting visitors.
Not only Cat Ba, but Do Son is also gradually regaining its position as a major coastal tourism center in the North. The emergence of large-scale resort and entertainment complexes has contributed to changing the face of Do Son tourism, creating more options for tourists.
Ms. Nguyen Thu Ha, a tourist from Hanoi, shared: “Many years ago, I used to think Do Son was only suitable for day trips. But in the last few years, the services have improved a lot, with more amusement parks, beautiful hotels, and cleaner spaces. My family often chooses Hai Phong for short vacations because it's both convenient to travel to and offers many experiences.”
Notably, Do Son continues to attract many large-scale tourism projects. Among them, the Hai Phong International Conference, Trade and Tourism Center project, with a total investment of over 2.110 billion VND, includes many modern facilities such as a 5-star hotel with approximately 180 rooms, a 1,000-seat conference center, a casino, and a large-scale electronic gaming system with prizes, which will commence construction this May.
Notably, the project chooses a development approach that harmonizes modernity and preservation by retaining the Van Hoa Castle and the landscape of Hill 72, while adding green spaces and coastal promenades. This is considered an important step in helping Do Son gradually transform from a traditional resort tourism model into an international center for relaxation, entertainment, and conferences.
Towards a green and modern beach tourism brand.

The vibrant atmosphere clearly reflects the growing appeal of Hai Phong's coastal tourism after years of comprehensive investment in infrastructure and tourism products.
Along with revitalizing its tourism products, Hai Phong is focusing heavily on investing in transportation infrastructure and regional connectivity. The Hanoi-Hai Phong and Hai Phong-Quang Ninh expressways, Cat Bi International Airport, the Cat Hai-Phu Long cable car, and high-speed train routes connecting different regions are creating significant advantages for the city's tourism.
In particular, the cruise ship route connecting Ha Long Bay and Lan Ha Bay opens up new development opportunities for inter-regional tourism and helps Hai Phong participate more deeply in the international heritage tourism chain.
Notably, the recent adjustments to the planning of Do Son and Cat Ba continue to open up new development opportunities for Hai Phong's coastal and island tourism. In Do Son, approximately 290 hectares of water surface are planned to be converted into mixed-use land for urban development, services, and tourism, creating a foundation for the formation of large-scale resort and entertainment complexes in the future.
Meanwhile, Cat Ba is being restructured towards more sustainable development by both increasing land for tourism and maintaining large areas of themed green spaces, ensuring a balance between economic development and ecological conservation.
According to Mr. Tran Van Ngoc, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the city is focusing on building a green, modern, professional, and distinctive brand for its coastal tourism. Specifically, Cat Ba is being developed as an international-level eco-tourism center for islands and coastal areas, while Do Son is being developed towards resort tourism, entertainment, and large-scale conferences and seminars.
Hai Phong aims not only to increase the number of tourists but also to focus on improving service quality, extending the length of stay, and increasing tourist spending. The city is prioritizing the development of unique tourism products, promoting regional linkages, green transformation, and digital transformation to enhance the competitiveness of Hai Phong tourism in the new phase.
Besides its advantages of coastal and island tourism, Hai Phong also effectively promotes the linkage between beach tourism and cultural, spiritual, and culinary tourism to increase the attractiveness of the destination. After the consolidation of development spaces, the city has added many unique heritage values such as Con Son - Kiet Bac, opening up opportunities to form multi-experience tours. Products such as "Hai Phong Foodtour," the "Sacred Traces of Hang Kenh" night tour, and the tourism route connecting Ha Long Bay and Lan Ha Bay are contributing to enriching the city's tourism ecosystem.
From impressive growth figures to a shift in development thinking, it's clear that Hai Phong's brand as a coastal tourism destination is becoming increasingly prominent. Not only is it attractive for its unique coastal and island landscapes, but Hai Phong also makes its mark with its dynamism, modernity, and strong aspiration to become a leading coastal tourism center in the North.
