According to information from the People's Committee of Chiềng Hặc commune, Sơn La province, this wild monkey appeared in the forest border area of the village in early December 2025. Initially, the monkey frequently destroyed crops and appeared quite tame. Recently, its behavior has become aggressive, constantly approaching and attacking people while they are working in the fields.

The most serious incident occurred when Mr. HVT, while working in his family's farm, was suddenly attacked from behind by a monkey, sustaining multiple injuries to his thighs. The victim was then taken to the hospital for emergency treatment and is currently being monitored and treated at a medical facility.

Previously, on December 24th and 26th, this same monkey also attacked Mr. HVP and Ms. HVP while they were working in the fields in the same area. Fortunately, those victims only suffered minor injuries.

Immediately after receiving the information, the leaders of Chiềng Hặc commune People's Committee coordinated with local forest rangers from the Forest Ranger Station of Region VIII to go to the scene to verify the incident, and at the same time directly visit the victims and educate the people on how to prevent and not hunt wild animals.

Initial observations from residents and authorities indicate that the wild monkey usually appears alone, showing signs of losing its fear of humans, often hiding and launching surprise attacks from behind. The monkey is currently believed to be residing in the cliff and cave areas near the production zone of Coc Lac village.

The People's Committee of Chiềng Hặc commune has directed specialized departments to coordinate with the forest rangers, the commune police, and the village management board to establish a task force to inspect and monitor the area where the monkey frequently appears. At the same time, they are developing a suitable plan to handle the situation, ensuring the safety of the people while complying with regulations on wildlife protection.

Local authorities also advised people to be vigilant when working in the fields, not to go alone in mountainous areas, and not to approach, chase away, or tease wild animals. In case of monkey bites or scratches, people should quickly go to a medical facility for treatment and timely vaccination.
