Reprimanding a teacher

TPO - Ms. Ngo Thi Tuyet, a teacher at Ngoc Lac High School ( Thanh Hoa ), was disciplined with a reprimand for mistakenly recording the wrong grade, causing a student who was the "top scorer" to fail the entrance exam for 10th grade at Le Hong Phong High School.

Regarding the error in recording the exam score of a student participating in the entrance exam for grade 10 at Le Hong Phong High School (Bim Son town, Thanh Hoa province) for the 2024-2025 school year, changing the top scorer to a failing grader, the Department of Education and Training has submitted a report explaining the incident to the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee and the Inspectorate of the Ministry of Education and Training.

According to the report, the incident occurred not because of the teachers grading the papers, but because the grading committee of the Ngoc Lac High School Examination Board mistakenly entered the wrong score for candidate CTH in the 2024-2025 10th grade entrance exam, and the Chairman of the Examination Board is also responsible.

Inspectors from the Thanh Hoa Department of Education and Training have also worked with the family, the examination board, and the teachers directly involved, and confirmed that there was no wrongdoing in this case.

Immediately after receiving the inspection report from the Department of Education and Training, the leaders of the Thanh Hoa Department of Education and Training instructed Le Hong Phong High School to have the Admissions Council re-evaluate and conduct a re-selection process for the CTH candidate in accordance with regulations. Accordingly, the CTH candidate did not meet the admission requirements for Le Hong Phong High School.

On September 26, 2024, Le Hong Phong High School invited representatives from the families of CTH students to receive notification of the results of the 10th grade entrance examination.

Regarding the accountability review of the Ngoc Lac High School Examination Board, the Department of Education and Training has issued a directive to Ngoc Lac High School to conduct an accountability review of the officials and teachers directly involved in this error. On October 9, 2024, Ngoc Lac High School held a meeting to review the responsibilities of the relevant members.

As a result, disciplinary action in the form of a reprimand was taken against Ms. Ngo Thi Tuyet, a teacher at Ngoc Lac High School. A review and lessons learned process was conducted for the following officials and teachers of Ngoc Lac High School: Mr. Vu Ngoc Liem, Principal of Ngoc Lac High School; and Ms. Ngo Thi Thanh, Ms. Vu Thi Thuy, and Ms. Tran Thi Tu, all teachers at Ngoc Lac High School.

Based on the above incident, the Department of Education and Training is seriously learning from this experience to manage and direct examinations more strictly, enhance the responsibility of officials, and strictly implement examination regulations and guidelines to avoid regrettable mistakes.

Previously, after receiving feedback, the Inspectorate of the Thanh Hoa Department of Education and Training checked and reviewed the exam scores of candidate CTH at the Le Hong Phong High School examination board. The results of the check and comparison of candidate CTH's exam scores were as follows: Mathematics: score on the grading sheet 4.5; score on the exam 4.5; score on the score sheet 8.0. Literature: score on the grading sheet 6.5; score on the exam 6.5; score on the score sheet 8.5. English: score on the grading sheet 2.4; score on the exam 2.4; score on the score sheet 6.4.
