It is difficult to determine specifically which food caused the poisoning at Tram Anh chicken rice restaurant.

According to the Khanh Hoa Province Food Safety and Hygiene Department, the total number of people poisoned and having to go to medical facilities is 369.

Bacteria causing food poisoning are Salmonella spp, Bacillus cereus, Staphylococcus aureus found in rice, shredded chicken, egg sauce, pickled vegetables, fried onions.

Through investigation from hospitals, the patients admitted to the hospital all had the main clinical symptoms of abdominal pain, frequent loose stools, nausea, vomiting, fever, and fatigue. All of these patients had in common that they ate chicken rice at Tram Anh Chicken Rice Restaurant. Thus, the initial determination was that the establishment causing the poisoning was Tram Anh Chicken Rice Restaurant. The meals that caused the poisoning were at noon and in the afternoon of March 11 and 12.

The restaurant's menu on March 11 and 12 includes rice, shredded chicken, grilled chicken, fish sauce, egg sauce, pickled vegetables, and fried onions. Because the restaurant sells dine-in and take-out food and does not print receipts, the owner cannot count the number of people who bought and used the food prepared by the restaurant during these two days.

Severe food poisoning patient at Tram Anh chicken rice restaurant is being treated at Khanh Hoa General Hospital.

The food poisoning investigation team collected samples and sent them to the Pasteur Institute in Nha Trang for testing, including 4 food samples, 4 hand samples, water samples on March 11, and fried onion, vegetable (pickles), boiled chicken, and grilled chicken samples on March 12.

Through investigation and analysis, it was found that the dishes on the food tray could be cross-contaminated with each other. On the other hand, Tram Anh restaurant has a certificate of food safety but does not keep food samples, so the investigation team cannot take samples of each individual dish of the meal, which is the cause of the poisoning.

The remaining chicken rice sample provided by the poisoned patient was placed with other dishes in the chicken rice box, so cross-contamination between dishes may also occur.

From the above analysis, Khanh Hoa Food Safety and Hygiene Department said that there is not enough scientific basis to determine specifically which food is the food that causes poisoning. It can only be generally stated that the dish that caused the poisoning is chicken rice (including rice, shredded chicken, grilled chicken, fish sauce, egg sauce, pickled vegetables, fried onions).

The investigation results also showed that up to 228 people were poisoned with an incubation period of over 24 hours. The locality did not record any soil, water and air pollution in the area where Tram Anh restaurant operates.

Currently, Tram Anh chicken restaurant has been suspended, Nha Trang City Health Department and related agencies are taking steps to handle violations against the restaurant that caused food poisoning to this customer.
