Minimally invasive surfactant lung maturation (LISA) has been implemented at Quang Ninh Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital, contributing to improved treatment effectiveness for newborns with hyaline membrane disease.

Preeclampsia is one of the five most dangerous obstetric complications, potentially causing serious complications for pregnant women such as eclampsia, HELLP syndrome, placental abruption, pulmonary edema, and renal failure. It also leads to serious consequences for the fetus, including intrauterine growth retardation, stillbirth, premature birth, perinatal death, and complications from premature birth. After more than three years of research, the hospital's team of doctors successfully completed a provincial-level science and technology project: "Research on the application of preeclampsia screening techniques in the first trimester of pregnancy."

Through this science and technology project, the research team successfully applied the technique of screening for pre-eclampsia in the first three months of pregnancy according to the model of the World Federation of Fetal Medicine at Quang Ninh Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital; evaluated the effectiveness of low-dose aspirin prevention based on screening results; and proposed solutions for scaling up the technique to other medical facilities in the province. From November 2023 to December 2025, the screening process was implemented and operated stably, with 1,335 pregnant women agreeing to participate in the study, of which 1,187 cases met the criteria for follow-up and analysis until the end of pregnancy. The results demonstrate the feasibility, effectiveness, and sustainability of the model under practical conditions at the provincial level.

Furthermore, the hospital's medical staff, including doctors, nurses, and technicians, have received specialized training and certification to perform ultrasound, laboratory tests, and provide counseling for pre-eclampsia screening. The successful implementation of this technique not only enhances the hospital's professional capacity but also opens up opportunities to replicate the screening model at other medical facilities in the province, contributing to a reduction in obstetric complications and improving the quality of the population from the early stages of life.

In addition to the above results, Quang Ninh Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital is continuing to implement two provincial-level science and technology projects for the period 2025-2027, including: Applying minimally invasive surfactant lung maturation (LISA) technique in newborns with hyaline membrane disease; and applying transcranial magnetic stimulation in the treatment of sleep disorders in children with autism spectrum disorder. These are all new techniques with practical significance in improving treatment quality, reducing complications, and improving the quality of life for patients, especially children.

According to Dr. Bui Minh Cuong, Director of Quang Ninh Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital, recognizing science and technology as a crucial foundation for sustainable development, the hospital has consistently focused on promoting scientific research, applying technological advancements, and improving quality. Each year, the hospital implements approximately 70 research projects and initiatives at the grassroots level, thereby creating an environment that fosters innovation and creativity among its staff, doctors, and nurses. This contributes to gradually improving the quality of medical examination and treatment, better meeting the healthcare needs of mothers and children in the new context.

The application of modern equipment and technology contributes to improving the quality of diagnosis and treatment at Quang Ninh Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital.

Alongside scientific research, the hospital is promoting digital transformation, gradually modernizing its management and medical examination and treatment processes. Electronic medical records and the paperless hospital model continue to be perfected; medical examination and treatment data are connected and integrated to facilitate health insurance payments. The use of chip-embedded citizen ID cards, VNeID, and VSSID for health insurance-covered medical examinations and treatments is effectively maintained, reducing procedures and saving time for citizens.

Cashless payments have been widely implemented in various forms such as QR codes, Internet Banking, and POS cards; simultaneously, dynamic QR code payments are being piloted, gradually changing people's habits in using healthcare services. The hospital is also strengthening the implementation of telemedicine through the VTelehealth system, connecting consultations with central-level hospitals and providing professional support to grassroots levels; implementing electronic prescriptions according to regulations, contributing to standardizing the examination and treatment process.
