On June 1st, the Ministry of Science and Technology (MST) held its regular monthly press conference for May 2026, chaired by Deputy Minister Bui Hoang Phuong.
According to the Ministry of Science and Technology , the proportion of high-tech goods exports in the first quarter of 2026 reached 50.76%. Notably, Vietnam rose to the 50th position in the world for the first time in StartupBlink's Global Startup Ecosystem Index 2026 report, an increase of 5 places compared to the previous year and its highest ranking ever.
The domestic innovation ecosystem continues to expand with 963 science and technology enterprises, 20 science and technology exchange platforms, and 37 innovation centers in 26 out of 34 provinces and cities.

In the field of digital transformation, the rate of online applications processed through the entire process reached 50.2% in May. The digital economy is estimated to contribute 14.02% to GDP by 2025, equivalent to approximately US$72.1 billion. Vietnam also maintains its position among the world's leading countries in telecommunications infrastructure, with mobile broadband internet speeds reaching 207.3 Mbps and fixed broadband speeds reaching 287.33 Mbps, both ranking 11th globally.
To date, the country has 110.5 million mobile broadband internet subscribers, including 24.29 million 5G subscribers; and 25.62 million fixed broadband internet subscribers. Revenue from postal services in May is estimated at 8,500 billion VND, an increase of 30% compared to the same period last year.
Regarding institutional reform, in May, the Ministry of Science and Technology advised the Government to issue 2 decrees and 2 resolutions; submitted 11 decisions to the Prime Minister for issuance; and issued 4 circulars within its authority.

Policies focus on developing new technologies, strategic technologies, enhancing national competitiveness, developing technical infrastructure, and ensuring technological safety and security.
May also saw many significant diplomatic activities and events for the sector. Highlights included the Vietnam-India Innovation Forum in New Delhi, attended by General Secretary and President To Lam; talks between the Vietnamese Ministry of Science and Technology and the Sri Lankan Ministry of Science and Technology on cooperation in 6G, UAVs, and satellite technology; and the third meeting of the Government Steering Committee on Science and Technology Development, Innovation, Digital Transformation, and Project 06.
The Ministry of Science and Technology also organized a series of events in response to Vietnam's Science, Technology and Innovation Day on May 18th; the 2026 Science and Technology Book Exhibition with the theme "Knowledge - Building a Digital Nation"; a specialized Techmart for products applying artificial intelligence (AI); and participated in many international forums on AI, semiconductors, digital transformation and digital infrastructure in Singapore, the United States, Thailand and the Philippines.
In June 2026, the Ministry of Science and Technology will focus on implementing key tasks according to Resolution 57-NQ/TW, especially perfecting the institutional framework in the fields of science and technology, innovation, digital transformation, standards, measurement and quality, postal services and telecommunications.
In addition, the Ministry will promote the development of strategic technologies, research the restructuring of national science and technology programs, finalize the National Science and Technology Exchange Platform Project, and submit to the Prime Minister the National Digital Architecture Framework to create a foundation for comprehensive digital transformation in the coming period.
