According to the plan, this project will be completed before December 31, 2025, ensuring that the progress is synchronized with the commissioning of phase 1 of Long Thanh Airport.

According to the General Department of Customs, Long Thanh Airport will focus on operating long-haul routes over 1,000km, accounting for approximately 55% of domestic and Southeast Asian flights.

In terms of cargo transportation, Long Thanh Airport is expected to handle more than 700,000 tons, accounting for 97% of the total import and export cargo volume through the region.

The customs management model at Long Thanh will utilize an automated screening system and apply artificial intelligence (AI) to improve the efficiency of baggage inspection.

At the groundbreaking ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Van Thang, Minister of Finance, stated that this is one of the important component projects that will contribute to enhancing the effectiveness of state management of customs when the airport becomes operational.

Mr. Thang requested the General Department of Customs to direct its units to implement the project with the spirit of "clear responsibilities, clear tasks, clear timelines, clear accountability, and clear deliverables".

The Minister also requested that the unit regularly monitor progress, promptly identify difficulties and obstacles, and coordinate with units under the Ministry of Finance and local departments to proactively resolve them, ensuring the project is completed on schedule. This is to avoid negative practices, losses, and waste during the project implementation.

To date, the construction progress of the airport, customs, immigration management department, and local police headquarters is on schedule.
