Construction begins on the urban tram line and three other trillion-VND projects in Phu Quoc in preparation for APEC 2027.

On the morning of December 19th, the People's Committee of An Giang province held a groundbreaking ceremony for four strategic and important projects with a total investment of approximately 14,800 billion VND to serve the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum 2027 in Phu Quoc (APEC 2027).

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Phong, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of An Giang province, said that four projects are being launched in Phu Quoc to welcome APEC 2027, including the first phase of the urban tram line project in Phu Quoc.

This project is invested under the BOT (Build-Operate-Transfer) model (with Sun Group as the investor), with a total capital of nearly 9,000 billion VND, a length of nearly 18km, a design speed of 70-100km/h, and a capacity of 4,500 passengers per hour.

This tram line will directly connect Phu Quoc International Airport to APEC Boulevard, leading straight to the APEC Convention and Exhibition Center, ensuring convenient connectivity for international events.

Secondly, there is the Duong Dong 2 reservoir project, covering an area of ​​96.5 hectares with a capacity of 4.7 million ^m³ , and a total investment of approximately 2,950 billion VND.

In addition, there are two resettlement projects, Cua Can and Ham Ninh, with a total area of ​​approximately 200 hectares (over 7,000 plots) and a total investment of 2,850 billion VND.

"These projects not only prepare for APEC 2027 but also help Phu Quoc realize its dream of completing modern infrastructure and becoming an attractive, high-class, and livable destination in the eyes of international visitors."

"An Giang province will not allow any negative incidents, losses, or corruption to occur and is committed to implementing the project urgently and decisively to ensure the successful hosting of APEC 2027," Mr. Phong emphasized.

The urban tram line in Phu Quoc is approximately 18km long and has an investment of nearly 9,000 billion VND.

Mr. Nguyen Van Thang, Minister of Finance, stated that Vietnam hosting APEC 2027 in Phu Quoc is an honor and also an opportunity to promote the national image and Phu Quoc tourism to international standards for tourists worldwide.

The Duong Dong 2 reservoir project will not only serve APEC 2027 but also help provide clean water for the people on Phu Quoc Island.

"I propose that the leaders of the An Giang Provincial People's Committee and the Phu Quoc Special Economic Zone People's Committee create all conditions to help investors implement the project on schedule, ensuring quality standards; and effectively utilize the facilities after the completion of APEC 2027."

"The Ministry of Finance should coordinate and work alongside the local authorities to implement the project on schedule and put it into operation, making Phu Quoc a world-class tourist destination," Mr. Thang suggested.
