Can Tho City leaders visit a highly economically efficient mud crab farming model in Can Tho City.
From this movement, more and more exemplary farmers have emerged who dare to think and act, boldly renovate their orchards, transform the structure of crops and livestock, or pioneer the application of science and technology in production... By 2025, the entire city will have more than 156,500 households achieving the title of excellent farmers in production and business at all levels. The movement has truly developed strongly and deeply at the grassroots level. For example, the percentage of households achieving this title in Ho Dac Kien commune reached 69.45%, Thanh Hoa commune reached 68%, and Truong Long commune reached 67%...
Thanks to his bold decision to diversify his crops and livestock, Mr. Vo Van Quoc Khanh from Nhon Nghia commune has found an effective path, earning hundreds of millions of dong annually. Specifically, he transformed his unproductive fruit orchard into a durian plantation, while simultaneously utilizing 200 square meters of land behind his house to raise mud crabs. Mr. Khanh shared: “Once the durian orchard became stable, I realized that raising mud crabs required little care, didn't demand a large area, and had a favorable market, so I researched and learned how to raise them as well.” Thanks to this effective combination, his family has a stable income, significantly improving their quality of life.
Farmers are always supported by the grassroots Farmers' Associations on their path to innovation. According to Ms. Ha Thi Nhan, Chairwoman of the Truong Long Commune Farmers' Association, the Association regularly encourages its members to actively transform the agricultural structure towards commodity production, boldly applying science, technology, and digital technology to build effective economic models. In addition, the Association proactively coordinates with relevant departments, agencies, and businesses to organize technology transfer; and simultaneously improves practical support services such as supplying seeds, fertilizers, and loans… to ensure farmers can confidently invest in production.
It is evident that farmers in Can Tho have been promoting innovation and creativity to develop high-value economic models. The practical effectiveness of the emulation movement for excellent production and business not only helps farmers become wealthy but also contributes to meeting the requirement of "percentage of households with excellent production and business" in the National Criteria for Building New Rural Areas in the 2026-2030 period. These tangible results are the driving force for localities to continue completing the construction of new rural areas in the next phase.
