The defendants have been charged with murder.

On May 23, the Criminal Police Department of Da Nang City Police served decisions to initiate criminal proceedings, indict suspects, and temporarily detain Dang Van Nhat Hoang (residing in An Hai Tay Ward), Ton Hoang Thai Quy (both 16 years old, residing in Man Thai Ward), Pham Bao Hung, and Ho Ngoc Chung (both 17 years old, residing in Nai Hien Dong Ward, Son Tra District, Da Nang City) for the crime of murder.

According to the investigation, Hoang and Quoc Hung (whose background is unknown) were both in a relationship with the same girl. When they discovered they had a rival, they became jealous and arranged a fight to settle their dispute on the evening of August 19, 2022, in an empty plot of land on Nguyen Sinh Sac Street (Hoa Minh Ward, Lien Chieu District, Da Nang City).

Hoang, along with Quy, Bao Hung, Chung, and about 15 other teenagers aged 16-17 residing in Nai Hien Dong, An Hai Bac, and Man Thai wards (Son Tra District), brought weapons including a three-pronged stick over 2 meters long, a two-pronged stick about 1.5 meters long, a machete, a fire extinguisher, a pig-slaughtering knife about 1.5 meters long, and a homemade knife about 1 meter long.

The group gathered under Thuan Phuoc Bridge (on the Hai Chau District side), bought gasoline, and poured it into glass bottles to create Molotov cocktails.

Four defendants have been charged with murder.

Quoc Hung's group mobilized Tran Danh Quyen, Truong Cong Quoc (both 17 years old, residing in Hoa Hiep Bac Ward) and 3 others (whose identities are unknown) carrying iron rods about 2 meters long, and moved to Nguyen Sinh Sac Street to set up an ambush.

At approximately 2:00 AM on August 20, 2022, Hoang's group arrived at the intersection of Nguyen Sinh Sac and Kinh Duong Vuong streets, where they were ambushed and attacked by Hung, Quoc, Quyen, and three others.

However, because Hoang's group was larger, they later gained the upper hand. Hung was lucky to escape, while Quoc, carrying Quyen, fled along Kinh Duong Vuong Street to Tran Dinh Tri Street where Hoang's group caught up with them.

Hoang's gang, armed with pig-slaughtering knives, closed in and slashed downwards. Quyen raised his left hand to defend himself, but the blade struck him, causing injury. Hoang's thugs then continued to slash Quyen and Quoc's head and arm multiple times.

Quoc continued to drive Quyen away towards Nguyen Chanh Street. Hoang's group chased after them, slashing at them, causing Quoc to lose control of the steering wheel, swerve onto the sidewalk, and crash into a fence of a house, falling to the ground.

Seeing Quoc and Quyen unconscious, the group left; local residents took the two victims to Da Nang Hospital for emergency treatment.

The Da Nang City Police are continuing to expand their investigation into the murder, searching for the remaining suspects in this gang.
