On the afternoon of May 24th, according to exclusive sources of VTC News, authorities in Nghe An province have initiated legal proceedings and ordered a four-month temporary detention for Mr. Doan Tien Dung, Chairman of the People's Committee of Cua Lo town (Nghe An province), to investigate related violations.
Reportedly, on the afternoon of the same day (May 24th), law enforcement officers searched Mr. Doan Tien Dung's office.

Previously, on May 6, 2024, Mr. Doan Tien Dung issued Decision No. 1143 authorizing Mr. Nguyen Quang Tieu, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Cua Lo town, to "handle the town's affairs from May 6, 2024 until further notice of the expiration of the authorization."
Recently, the media has reported on a series of land-related violations in Cua Lo town. Following this, the authorities have launched an investigation.

Previously, on January 4, 2024, the Standing Committee of the Town Party Committee held an extraordinary meeting to hear the Town People's Committee report on the results of the "review and rectification of land acquisition and resettlement arrangements in the town." On January 5, 2024, the Cua Lo Town Party Committee issued a Notice summarizing the conclusions of the Standing Committee at the extraordinary meeting. The content of this notice indicated that the Standing Committee of the Cua Lo Town Party Committee continued to request the Town People's Committee to implement the following:
Complete the report with specific data, clearly defining the roadmap for rectification and implementation of land clearance for plots of land that have been reclaimed, no longer have assets on the land, are located within projects with land use plans for 2024, and have fulfilled financial obligations regarding resettlement land.
There are plans to auction off land plots that have been returned to the State; and to resolutely reclaim land plots that have not been transferred in accordance with regulations.
Expeditiously complete the process of temporarily depositing additional funds into the escrow account awaiting processing in accordance with the law. Focus resources on compensation, land clearance, and the implementation of resettlement land plots according to the project (for resettlement land plots that have been identified, temporarily suspend the issuance of construction permits and refrain from transferring, mortgaging, or conducting other transactions).
Members of the Standing Committee of the City Party Committee and relevant individuals must set an example in complying with and encouraging their relatives to comply with the Standing Committee's policy on returning land or paying money as required.
Clearly identify the violations committed by the relevant collective and individuals, and propose appropriate disciplinary measures in accordance with Party regulations and State laws.
