Woman prosecuted for impersonating son's girlfriend to scam mother.

On October 3rd, information from the Criminal Investigation Agency of Kim Thanh District Police (Hai Duong province) indicated that they had issued a decision to prosecute Hoang Thi Hong (48 years old, residing in Loc Hoa Ward, Nam Dinh City, Nam Dinh province - currently living in Lam Ha Ward, Kien An District, Hai Phong City) for the crime of fraud and appropriation of property, by impersonating the girlfriend of the victim's son.

Previously, on September 23, the Criminal Investigation Agency of Kim Thanh District Police received a report that from June 28 to August 26, Hong had committed fraud and misappropriated property in the area.

The investigation revealed that Hong was a worker at a company located in Tam Ky commune (Kim Thanh district). During her time working at the company, Hong became acquainted with Mrs. VTH (65 years old). Through conversations, Mrs. H. told Hong that she had a son named NTX (40 years old) who was currently unmarried.

In June 2023, Hong told Mrs. H. that she had a friend named Hien (40 years old) who was single and living in Hai Phong City (the person Hong would impersonate to deceive Mrs. H.) and wanted to introduce her to Mr. X.

Ms. H. agreed. Hong gave her current phone number and told Ms. H. that this was Hien's number to give to Mr. X. so they could add each other as friends and chat.

Having received his mother's phone number, Mr. X befriended the account "Hien Hp" which was being impersonated by Hong on the Zalo social network. Once Mrs. H. and her son trusted her, Hong used Hien's name six times to swindle money and property from Mrs. H., totaling 56.7 million VND in cash and a pair of gold earrings weighing 2 taels.

In mid-September 2023, suspecting Hong of fraud and misappropriation of property, Mrs. H. and her daughter reported the matter to the police. It was learned that Hong had a prior conviction for child trafficking and was released from prison in September 2020.

The case of a man impersonating his son's girlfriend to scam his mother is currently under investigation by the Criminal Investigation Agency of Kim Thanh District Police.
