On the morning of November 27, information from Lai Chau Provincial Police, the unit has just received a Letter of Commendation from Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh for the project to destroy a transnational fraud organization.
In the letter, the Prime Minister wrote that he was pleased that right after the signing ceremony of the United Nations Convention against Cybercrime was held in Hanoi, Lai Chau Provincial Police had concentrated their forces, drastically deployed professional measures to fight and successfully dismantle a transnational crime ring, operating professionally, on a large scale, with locations abroad, taking advantage of cyberspace to impersonate police officers, the military and other agencies to defraud and appropriate people's property using sophisticated and cunning tricks.
The investigation determined that the subjects had defrauded and appropriated the assets of 8,000 people for more than 300 billion VND; arrested and prosecuted 64 subjects, including the mastermind and ringleader, and seized many documents, data, and evidence of the case.
"This is an outstanding achievement, demonstrating the intelligence and sharpness of the profession, the ability to fight and prevent high-tech crimes and cybercrime of the People's Public Security force in general and Lai Chau Provincial Public Security in particular," the Prime Minister's letter wrote.
In the letter, the Prime Minister mentioned that the achievements of Lai Chau Provincial Police are clear evidence of the determination to fight cybercrime of the Party, State and the Vietnam People's Public Security Force, contributing to spreading and creating positive effects to serve the implementation of the United Nations Convention against Cybercrime worldwide; at the same time, protecting the dignity of functional agencies and protecting people's property.
The Prime Minister requested the Ministry of Public Security, based on current regulations, to promptly have forms of commendation and propose worthy rewards for collectives and individuals with outstanding achievements in fighting the above-mentioned special case; direct functional forces to step up propaganda to raise people's vigilance to prevent crimes; at the same time, promote the achieved results, continue to fight and strongly suppress all types of crimes, including cybercrime, organized crime, and transnational activities.
