The 43rd National Table Tennis Championship of Nhan Dan Newspaper kicks off

On the occasion of the 135th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh's birthday and towards the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day September 2, on the afternoon of May 19, at Tien Son Sports Palace, Da Nang city, exciting matches within the framework of the 43rd National Table Tennis Championship of Nhan Dan Newspaper for the PetroVietnam - PVCFC Cup 2025 began.

This year’s tournament has the largest number of athletes participating ever, with 205 athletes from 22 professional table tennis teams from provinces, cities, industries, and businesses nationwide. This is an annual national table tennis tournament with prestige and tradition, organized under the direction of the Central Party Secretariat since 1982.

In his opening speech, Mr. Le Quoc Minh, Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Commission, Editor-in-Chief of Nhan Dan Newspaper, Chairman of the Vietnam Journalists Association , Head of the Tournament Steering Committee, commented: “The Nhan Dan Newspaper National Table Tennis Championship has become an annual sporting event, eagerly awaited by sports circles and fans. It is even more meaningful when a national top tournament is held on the occasion of the 135th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh's birthday.”

Providing more information about the achievements of the Vietnamese table tennis team at major international tournaments, Mr. Le Quoc Minh said, “The overall achievements of Vietnamese table tennis include the contribution of the Nhan Dan Newspaper National Table Tennis Championship - a top professional tournament, prestigious and largest in scale in Vietnamese table tennis. The tournament has been held consistently and continuously for 43 years, and from these tournaments, it has contributed to selecting and training many generations of talented table tennis players, competing excellently in domestic and international arenas, bringing glory to the Fatherland.”

According to the Organizing Committee, this year's tournament promises to be of high professional quality and competition because it will feature national athletes who have undergone long training and competition abroad, along with young athletes who have just achieved high results at the 2025 Southeast Asian Youth Championship. Athletes will compete in seven events: men's team - women's team, men's singles - women's singles, men's doubles - women's doubles, and mixed doubles.

Accordingly, the men's and women's team categories will compete in the Swaythling format (each team of three athletes will compete in five singles matches) and will be divided into two stages. The first stage will be divided into groups for a round-robin ranking within the group; the second stage will be a knockout competition. In the men's and women's singles categories, the team will compete in five best-of-three games; the men's and women's singles will compete in a knockout format of five best-of-three games (except for the semi-finals and finals, which will be played in seven best-of-four games). The men's, women's and women's doubles categories will compete in a knockout format of five best-of-three games.

There are a total of 7 sets of medals (each set has one first prize, one second prize, two third prizes) with 28 prizes. The Organizing Committee of the Tournament has constantly innovated, always maintaining high rewards, in which, the two championships for men's and women's teams are 50 million VND; the championships for men's and women's singles are 30 million VND; the total value of all prizes is up to 500 million VND.

Sideline activities such as the National Table Tennis Championship Miss Vote will continue to be maintained. Along with that, social activities during the tournament will contribute to spreading the humanistic values ​​of sports and receive support and welcome from public opinion.

On the opening day, the men's and women's team events were held first. The teams competed in a round robin in the group stage, then the 16 teams with the best results continued to the knockout round to advance to the quarter-finals, semi-finals and finals./.
