No one understands the burden that Trump is carrying.

US President Donald Trump is in a difficult position as the room for him to turn the tide in the Iran conflict is gradually closing.

The framework agreement between the US and Iran is believed to be finalized after a lengthy negotiation process. The document is now in its final stages and could pave the way for a diplomatic turning point between Washington and Tehran. However, President Trump remains under considerable pressure. He needs to reopen the Strait of Hormuz to bring down gasoline prices in the US, but at the same time must avoid angering Republican hawks who believe Washington is being too lenient with Tehran.

Constantly rotating and causing interference.

According to Reuters , Trump's dilemma became clear this week. According to sources familiar with the matter, the framework agreement would extend the current ceasefire, end the restrictions on maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz, and postpone discussions on the nuclear issue until the next round of negotiations.

If approved by both President Trump and Iranian leaders, the framework agreement would be a major step toward peace, since the US and Israel attacked Iran on February 28.

Nevertheless, many Republican lawmakers who support the war on Iran are urging Trump to “complete his mission” by resuming airstrikes and halting Tehran’s nuclear program development.

This week, some of Trump's hardline allies have criticized the likelihood of reaching an agreement. They argue that any deal reached would be little different from the 2015 agreement negotiated by the administration of former President Barack Obama, an agreement that Trump himself criticized and ultimately scrapped during his first term.

In response, Trump tried to appease allies, asserting that he was "in no hurry" and would only accept a "great" deal. However, his room for maneuver in the Iran conflict is shrinking.

"The shifts in rhetoric and the abrupt reversals in decisions Trump has made this past week demonstrate the reality: he is navigating a large-scale war within a tight political space," said Laura Blumenfeld, a Middle East expert at Johns Hopkins University.

According to the New York Times , this week, Trump's inconsistent approach to Iran has left allies both at home and abroad baffled. He has repeatedly shifted between advocating for diplomatic negotiations, threatening military action, and even making "bewildering" proposals.

Trump's May 25th post on Truth Social clearly illustrates this inconsistency. He simultaneously declared that negotiations with Iran were "going well," while warning that without a "great deal," things would return to "battlefields and gunfire, but bigger and more intense."

Despite all the harsh threats, and even direct clashes this week, the diplomatic process continues.

According to the New York Times , at the Pentagon, many military officials are baffled by Trump's erratic behavior. One senior defense official said that more than 50,000 U.S. troops deployed to the Middle East are also in a state of limbo as Trump constantly changes his mind.

Trump's approach to Iran appears to be driven by personal moods and current events. His shifts in stance also reflect pressure from factional infighting within American politics.

"Trump's statements are confusing. Everything seems chaotic and incomprehensible, but after six years, people have gotten used to it and are overlooking some of the distractions," observed James F. Jeffrey, a diplomat who worked under President George W. Bush.

Meanwhile, Iranian officials believe that Trump's constantly changing stance could make diplomacy more difficult.

"The US side posts a lot on social media, they say a lot. Sometimes it's confusing, sometimes it's contradictory," Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Saeed Khatibzadeh told reporters during his visit to Türkiye in mid-April.

Many questions remain unanswered.

Leaked information to the media about the terms of the framework agreement reveals that many thorny issues will not be resolved immediately.

These include the long-term issue of the Strait of Hormuz, the fate of Iran's highly enriched uranium stockpile, and the possibility of easing sanctions against Tehran...

While the framework agreement helps avoid military escalation, it remains far from Trump's earlier demands for Iran to "surrender unconditionally" and commit to halting its nuclear program.

Analysts suggest that Trump is trying to balance his goals, while political pressure on the US president is increasing and his approval ratings are declining.

The midterm elections are approaching. At a cabinet meeting on May 27, Trump reaffirmed his tough stance on Iran and declared that he was unconcerned about midterm election pressure.

However, his rapid shifts in behavior reveal a different reality. While Trump's style is inherently unpredictable, confusing even his allies and subordinates is probably not what the American leader desires. There are burdens that only those bearing them can truly understand.
