They even made baseless accusations that “the Soviet Union collaborated with Nazi Germany to cause World War II”. Such distorted arguments go against historical facts...
Notably, some media and social networking sites have made statements that do not accurately reflect history, claiming that since 1922, Soviet Russia played a role in helping Nazi Germany develop its military potential.

They argued that, after World War I, Germany was banned from developing heavy weapons. Therefore, Berlin cleverly circumvented this law through illegal cooperation with Soviet Russia on the basis of the Rapallo Treaty signed on April 16, 1922 to quickly strengthen its military potential in preparation for launching World War II in Europe.
Information on these media and social networks distorted the content of the Rapallo Treaty between the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic and the Weimar Republic - the name of Germany at that time. This treaty included 6 provisions with the content only aimed at resolving the consequences of World War I such as handling the issue of prisoners of war of the two countries after the war, Germany's war reparations according to the Versailles Peace Treaty, establishing diplomatic relations in the context of Soviet Russia being isolated by the US and the West after the October Revolution (November 7, 1917), establishing trade relations, creating normal living conditions for citizens of the two countries on each other's territory.
During World War I (1914-1918), Russia and Germany stood on two different fronts. In this war, Germany was defeated and had to sign the Versailles Peace Treaty in 1919. Accordingly, Germany had to pay war reparations to the winning countries such as the US, UK, France, etc. Therefore, the German government considered the Versailles Peace Treaty a "national humiliation" and had to "avenge". To "avenge", after taking power in 1933, Nazi Germany frantically prepared all conditions to launch a new great war in Europe.
After the October Revolution, the leaders of the Soviet Union also realized very clearly that the Versailles Peace Treaty was just a “quiet period” between two great wars. Therefore, after being established in 1922, the Soviet Union decided to carry out an industrialization program to prepare for the inevitable outbreak of World War II in Europe. The Soviet Union's industrialization program was completed in 1937, creating conditions for the Soviet Union to successfully conduct the Great Patriotic War, defeating fascism in World War II (1941-1945). Therefore, it was absolutely impossible for Soviet Russia to create conditions for Germany to quickly rebuild its military potential in preparation for launching World War II.
Even during the Cold War, leaders of some European countries used the Non-Aggression Pact between the Soviet Union and Nazi Germany signed on August 23, 1939 to argue that this treaty had sparked World War II!? Some organizations even considered the Soviet Union and Nazi Germany to be “equally guilty” of causing World War II!?...
This argument distorts the nature and content of the Non-Aggression Pact between the Soviet Union and Nazi Germany. This pact determined that the Soviet Union and Germany pledged to refrain from attacking each other, to remain neutral in the event that either side became the target of military action by any third party, and to not engage in forces that could directly or indirectly attack the other side. The Soviet leadership knew well that signing a non-aggression pact with Nazi Germany could not prevent World War II but only delay the time when Nazi Germany would concentrate its forces throughout Europe to attack the Soviet Union in preparation for a response.
The assessment of the Soviet leadership was based on another historical fact. Long before the Soviet Union signed a non-aggression pact with Germany, many European countries had signed similar pacts with Nazi Germany...
As predicted by the Soviet leadership, after launching World War II on September 1, 1939, Nazi Germany signed an alliance treaty with many European countries to prepare for an attack on the Soviet Union. After assembling forces from almost all of Europe, on December 18, 1940, Hitler approved the Barbarossa Plan to suddenly attack the Soviet Union on June 22, 1941.
The propaganda campaign distorting the role of the Soviet Union in the fight against fascism in World War II also goes against the historical truth that Germany gathered forces from many surrendered countries to participate in the war of aggression against the Soviet Union. Therefore, the Soviet Union played a major role in World War II in defeating the allied forces of Nazi Germany.
During this great war, the Soviet Union defeated 507 German divisions and 100 allied divisions; destroyed more than 70,000 German aircraft (accounting for about 70% of the total number of aircraft destroyed), about 50,000 tanks and assault weapons (75%), 167,000 artillery pieces (74%), more than 2,500 warships and support vessels.
After defeating Nazi Germany in Europe, the Soviet Union launched a campaign to defeat Japan's strongest Kwantung Army, playing a decisive role in forcing them to surrender unconditionally. The Soviet Union had to make extraordinary efforts to achieve this great victory, but also suffered enormous losses. Many cities and villages were destroyed, more than 27 million Soviet citizens were killed...
After 80 years, despite many distortions and plots to change the nature of the war, the great victory of the Soviet people is still recognized and honored by progressive people. According to records, the heads of state or representatives of more than 20 countries have accepted invitations to attend the celebration and parade on Red Square in Moscow on Victory Day, May 9 this year. In addition, some countries also sent forces to attend the parade to celebrate this victory. In Europe, despite many pressures, some countries, territories and some individuals still celebrate Victory Day on May 9...
The Soviet Union's victory in the Great Patriotic War not only contributed decisively to the defeat of fascism and militarism, but also created conditions for many countries to gain independence, including Vietnam. More than ever, progressive humanity needs to continue to prevent propaganda activities that distort the decisive role of the Soviet Union in the war to defeat fascism. This is a practical action to protect the true values of history and conscience, and at the same time to prevent the restoration of fascism.
