Phuoc Tra base attracts many visitors during the April 30th holiday.

DNO - From April 26th (the 10th day of the 3rd lunar month) to May 1st, more than 1,000 visitors came to pay respects and tour the Phuoc Tra Base Area (Phuoc Tra commune). This number is considered rare at this revolutionary historical site in recent years.

On the morning of April 30th, Ms. Vu Thi Kim Lien, a former officer of the Women's Liberation Union of Zone 5, along with nearly 20 retired officials from within and outside the city, visited the memorial site of the old agency and the Phuoc Tra base. This meaningful trip, a regular annual event commemorating April 30th, is a significant event. "Standing in this space, I feel deeply moved, because this is not only where I and my comrades dedicated our youth, but also where the sacrifices of soldiers who laid down their lives for the liberation of South Vietnam and the reunification of the country are commemorated," Ms. Lien said emotionally.

According to statistics, from April 26th to the afternoon of May 1st, more than 1,000 visitors came to tour and pay respects at the base. Specifically, on April 30th and May 1st, about 300 visitors came to the site, mostly veterans, retired officials, youth union members, and students.

Besides delegations from agencies, associations, and families residing in the city, many tourists from neighboring provinces also visit the former base area. Places like the exhibition hall, memorial monument, and the reconstructed meeting hall of the Zone 5 Party Committee Congress are always crowded with visitors taking photos and learning about history. This change is a stark contrast to the deserted areas of previous years.

Mr. Nguyen Nguyen Sa, an official at the Phuoc Tra Commune Public Service Center, said that the number of visitors to the historical site during this holiday period has doubled compared to previous years. According to Mr. Sa, besides the attraction of the historical values of the base area, the relatively convenient transportation infrastructure, with National Highway 14E now largely open, is also a contributing factor. The positive effect of tourism related to historical events is also a factor in the significant increase in visitor numbers.

“The Phuoc Tra base was the last headquarters of the Zone 5 Party Committee during the 1973-1975 period, associated with many important milestones of the resistance war. On April 30th, the demand for learning about history and paying tribute to the previous generation increases, especially among young people and organizations. I think these are the main factors leading to the increase in tourists,” Mr. Sa analyzed.

Another important factor comes from media and social networks. Many images and videos of mountainous landscapes, historical sites, and local cultural experiences are increasingly spreading widely, creating an effect that attracts tourists, especially young people who enjoy exploring.

Mr. Ta Huu Hoanh, a tourist from Thanh Hoa province, shared that he was quite surprised by the place's not only historical value but also its beautiful ecological landscape with pristine forests and mountains. Even though he visited during a holiday, it wasn't as crowded as other tourist destinations. In particular, the site preserves many valuable artifacts from the resistance war of former Chairman of the State Council Vo Chi Cong. “While many tourist destinations in the plains and coastal areas are quite familiar, the experience at Phuoc Tra offers a very interesting and engaging ‘combination,’ as you can travel, learn history, and explore nature all at the same time. I will bring my family back here soon so that my children can understand more about our national history,” Mr. Hoanh said.

The increase in visitor numbers during the 2026 holiday season is a positive sign, indicating that the potential of the Phuoc Tra Base Area is gradually being exploited to its full potential.

From a little-known "historical landmark," this place is transforming into a destination that combines history, education, and experiences. With continued investment in infrastructure, improved service quality, and enhanced promotion, Phuoc Tra could become an important link in the expanding Da Nang tourism map, contributing to product diversification and reducing the burden on traditional destinations.

The Zone V Party Committee historical site in Phuoc Tra commune (also known as the Phuoc Tra Base historical site) covers an area of nearly 157,000 . This was the last base of the Zone V Party Committee and the 5th Military Region Command during the years 1973-1975. In 1993, the base was classified as a national historical site by the Ministry of Culture and Information. Over the years, the site has received investment and restoration of many items such as the reception area, the meeting hall, the house and working bunker of Mr. Vo Chi Cong, and commemorative plaques for several central agencies that were once located there.
