In the four semi-final matches (men's and women's singles) held on the evening of October 28th, besides Hoai Thanh's victory over Phuong Linh in a very long seven-set match (11/8, 7/11, 7/11, 9/11, 11/9, 11/6, 11/8), there was another equally intense match: the men's singles match between Dinh Anh Hoang and Le Tien Dat, both from the T&T academy of renowned player Vu Manh Cuong.
A dramatic match between Le Tien Dat and Dinh Anh Hoang.
It took a full seven sets for Anh Hoang to overcome the experience of Tien Dat – the former men's singles runner-up at the 2013 SEA Games – with a score of 4-3. Hoang won the first two sets (16/14, 11/9) but lost the next three sets (6/11, 8/11 and 8/11), allowing Dat to take a 3-2 lead. It seemed that Le Tien Dat would make an effort to win one more set to reach the final on October 29th. However, while Hoang had the energy and passion to play, Dat's stamina didn't allow it, so Dinh Anh Hoang won the last two sets (11/6 and 11/5). Hoang earned the right to advance to the men's singles final against Hanoi player Nguyen Anh Tu (who defeated Ta Hong Khanh 4-0 in the semi-finals).
The remaining women's singles semi-final between the two strongest players currently, Nguyen Thi Nga and Nguyen Khoa Dieu Anh, is predicted to be very exciting. Nguyen Nga won the first two sets comfortably (11/9 and 11/3), but showed signs of fatigue from the third set onwards. As a result, Nguyen Khoa Dieu Khanh (Ho Chi Minh City) won the remaining four sets (11/6, 13/11, 11/5, and 13/11) and will face Vu Hoai Thanh in the final.
Vu Hoai Thanh advances to the women's singles final.
Earlier, in the finals of the three doubles events, national team player Dinh Anh Hoang of T&T Club performed excellently, winning two first prizes: in the men's doubles (with Le Dinh Duc), he defeated his teammate Le Tien Dat - Ta Hong Khanh 3-0; the defending SEA Games 32 mixed doubles champions Dinh Anh Hoang - Tran Mai Ngoc defeated Nguyen Hoang Lam - Tran Dieu Linh 3-0. The remaining first prize in the women's doubles went to Nguyen Khoa Dieu Khanh - Nguyen Bach Thanh Thu (Ho Chi Minh City) who defeated Vu Hoai Thanh - Lam Thu Cuc (Army Club) 3-0.
