Recently, localities in Hanoi have intensified inspections and supervision to ensure food safety in school cafeterias.

In the 2024-2025 school year, Hanoi's education sector will have over 2,900 schools with 2.3 million preschool and primary and secondary school students – making it the locality with the largest education system in the country. In addition, the capital city has more than 4,000 school cafeterias.

Recently, localities in Hanoi have intensified inspections and supervision to ensure food safety in school cafeterias.

Currently, the biggest challenge in connecting safe agricultural products to school cafeterias is the low price per meal; many schools and parents have not yet agreed to raise prices to reflect the cost of the products.

Business owners with communal kitchens are still hesitant to invest in clean food sources to ensure the health of their employees.

Therefore, authorities need to intensify propaganda efforts to raise awareness among organizations, individuals, and consumers, fostering a sense of social responsibility and changing habits in choosing and consuming food with clear origins, thereby creating a strong transformation in production and consumption...

According to Dang Thanh Phong, head of the Hanoi Food Safety and Hygiene Department, from August 2024 to the end of August 2025, the entire city will focus intensely on ensuring food safety both inside and outside schools.

Accordingly, school kitchens are strictly controlled in terms of food origin and processing to ensure safety and prevent food poisoning among students and teachers.

In addition, local authorities need to strengthen inspection and supervision of food services around schools.

The city is paying particular attention to the makeshift food stalls and vendors around school gates. Because the food sold at these stalls is of unknown origin, it poses a health risk to students...

In particular, the inspection, monitoring, and traceability of food in and around school gates will be carried out seriously and regularly; organizations and individuals violating regulations will be strictly dealt with.

To ensure food safety, the Hanoi Food Safety and Hygiene Department requests that inspection teams from districts, counties, and towns focus on conducting surprise inspections and follow-up checks to assess the extent to which establishments have rectified violations and existing problems.

This allows for the timely detection of unsafe food, establishments with violations, and those not fully complying with processing procedures. Furthermore, localities need to continue strengthening communication and guidance for schools, reminding students not to consume food of unknown origin provided by strangers.

Director of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, Tran The Cuong, affirmed that in order to successfully complete the tasks of the 2024-2025 school year and ensure students' academic performance, the entire education sector considers the care and protection of students' health as a top priority and will not neglect it at any time.

All schools have fully equipped medical rooms with a comprehensive list of medications and qualified medical staff on duty, ready to respond in case of any incidents.

To prevent food safety and hygiene risks both inside and outside school gates, in addition to continuing to coordinate with relevant authorities, schools in the city are paying special attention to proactively upholding a sense of responsibility for the care and protection of students' health.
