What should you avoid after getting Botox for jawline slimming?

For the first 2-3 hours after receiving jawline contouring Botox injections, patients should keep their heads held high and straight, avoid massaging or rubbing the injection area, and refrain from eating hard foods.

Injecting botox into the masseter muscles on either side of the jaw helps to slim the jawline. Botox takes effect after 1-2 weeks, and the results can last for about 3-6 months.

According to Dr. Tran Nguyen Anh Thu, a specialist in Dermatology and Cosmetic Dermatology at Tam Anh General Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City, Botox injections are a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure. Patients usually experience little pain, no impact on daily activities, and a quick recovery. However, some symptoms such as swelling, bruising in the treated area, headache, or nausea may occur in the first few days.

Headaches or swelling at the injection site are temporary and common, usually subsiding and disappearing after about a week. If the pain persists longer, the patient should see a doctor to find the cause.

For the first 2-3 hours after Botox injection, keep your head elevated and straight, avoiding bending over or lying on your side to minimize pressure on the injected area. Do not rub or massage the injection site to prevent the medication from spreading to other areas and affecting nearby muscles, potentially causing unwanted muscle paralysis. If side effects such as difficulty swallowing, facial asymmetry, significant swelling, shortness of breath, chest pain, hoarseness, etc., occur, seek immediate medical attention.

People who receive Botox injections should avoid sleeping for the first 2-3 hours and need to be monitored to detect any complications early. Sleeping without proper control can easily lead to lying on your side, stomach, or in an incorrect position, putting pressure on the injection site, causing pain and affecting the treatment results. For at least the first 7 days, strenuous activities that cause heavy sweating, such as gym workouts, running, or boxing, should be avoided.

After the injection, the jaw muscles are quite weak, and eating quickly causes fatigue, but this symptom gradually subsides. After about 7-10 days, the jaw muscles gradually return to normal function. However, during this time, you should eat soft, easy-to-swallow foods that don't require much chewing or biting to reduce jaw movement. Temporarily stop consuming alcohol and stimulants such as wine, beer, and coffee for at least two weeks after the injection, as they can reduce the effectiveness and neutralize the action of Botox. In addition, you should avoid foods that are likely to cause allergies for 1-4 weeks to allow the body to fully recover.

Gentle skincare can be applied after injections. Avoid saunas, hot baths, hair dryers, and heat treatments near the injection site, as the heat can affect the botox on the skin's surface and spread to surrounding muscles. Invasive cosmetic treatments such as chemical peels, microneedling, dermaroller, and HIFU should be performed at least 14 days after botox injections.

In the first few days after receiving Botox injections, it's important to cleanse the skin with saline solution, gently washing and drying it; protect the skin carefully, covering it well, and avoiding sun exposure and dust. Drink plenty of water and eat lots of fruits and vegetables to boost nutrients, helping the skin recover quickly and stay healthy.
