Ibrahima Konate will leave Liverpool this summer, after failing to reach an agreement on a contract extension with the Anfield club.

The French center-back joined Liverpool in 2021 and quickly became a key player in the defense under managers Jurgen Klopp and Arne Slot.

However, his contract will expire on July 1st. Renewal negotiations between the two parties have not yielded the expected results.

Konate was linked with Real Madrid last summer, but ultimately remained at Anfield. Liverpool then spent months negotiating to keep him, but failed to reach an agreement.

The Merseyside club is not willing to pay Konate a salary that is significantly higher than what is currently available in the squad.

Konate's departure will leave Liverpool with only two experienced central defenders: Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez. Both of their contracts are also set to expire next summer.

To prepare for the future, Liverpool are expected to give an opportunity to Jeremy Jacquet, the 20-year-old who will join the team from Rennes next summer.
