Authorities confirmed that shipping operations in both directions will return to normal as soon as the towing process is complete. This process was briefly delayed due to a malfunction in the ship's winch.
Sharing on Twitter, Leth Agencies stated that the Xin Hai Tong 23 vessel ran aground in the early morning.
On the same day, several ships scheduled to pass through the strait on the morning of May 25 were left behind. Meanwhile, data from the maritime transport tracking network Marine Traffic and Refinitiv showed that the ship, flying the Hong Kong (China) flag, lost control south of the canal.
The vessel Xin Hai Tong 23 departed from Dhuba port in Saudi Arabia. The vessel is owned by Xiang B12 HK International Ship Lease and managed by Tosco Keymax International Ship Management.
