Authorities confirmed that normal shipping operations in both directions will resume once the towage operation is completed, which was briefly delayed due to a broken winch.
Sharing on Twitter, Leth Agencies said that the Xin Hai Tong 23 ran aground in the early morning.
On the same day, several ships scheduled to pass through the strait on the morning of May 25 were stuck behind. Meanwhile, data from the shipping tracking network Marine Traffic and Refinitiv showed that the Hong Kong-flagged ship lost control in the south of the canal.
The Xin Hai Tong 23 departed from the port of Dhuba in Saudi Arabia. The vessel is owned by Xiang B12 HK International Ship Lease and managed by Tosco Keymax International Ship Management.
