According to SCMP, information from the manufacturer said that China has completed the first test flight of a heavy-duty “Chinook” unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) model capable of operating in harsh conditions - from the Himalayas to the East Sea.
The device, called the Boying T1400, developed by United Aircraft Technology, is expected to significantly improve supply capacity to areas with high terrain or remote seas.
According to the company, the T1400 - which has a parallel twin-rotor design similar to the US Army's CH-47 Chinook transport aircraft - passed its first test flight on October 30 in Harbin city, Heilongjiang province, Northeast China.
The T1400 has a maximum take-off weight of 1,400 kg and a payload of up to 650 kg, which can be carried in the cabin or suspended from the fuselage. Maximum speed reaches 180 km/h.
With two 130 kW engines, the T1400 can fly continuously for up to 8 hours or carry 200 kg of cargo over a distance of 900 km, enough to serve cross-regional transport missions or long-distance patrols.
According to the manufacturer, this device “overcomes the limitations of current industrial aircraft such as small payload and short flight time, and can undertake the task of transporting goods across regions or conducting wide-area surveillance.”
China is promoting the development of UAVs, joining the global race to manufacture vehicles for both civilian and military use./.
