Vietnam team faces runner-up Thailand at 2026 Asian Futsal Championship

The Vietnam team is in seed group number 2.

On the afternoon of November 5, the draw for the 2026 AFC Futsal Championship took place in Jakarta (Indonesia). The draw placed the Vietnamese team in the same group as their regional rival, Thailand. Group B also included Kuwait and Lebanon.

Hosts Indonesia are in Group A by default and will compete with Iraq, Kyrgyzstan and South Korea. Defending champions Iran are in Group D with Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia and Malaysia. Group C has Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Japan and Australia.

The 2026 AFC Futsal Championship will be held from January 27 to February 7, 2026 in Jakarta, Indonesia. 16 teams will be divided into four groups, playing a round-robin to determine points and rankings. The top two teams from each group will advance to the quarter-finals. From the quarter-finals onwards, matches will be played in a knockout format to determine the continental champion.

According to the FIFA men's futsal rankings announced on August 29, 2025, the Vietnam team (ranked 26th in the world ) is in group 2 along with Uzbekistan (19), Afghanistan (33) and Iraq (41). Group 2 is considered highly competitive and promises to bring exciting matches right from the group stage.

The Vietnamese team made a big splash when they reached the semi-finals of the 2016 Asian Futsal Championship, thereby winning a ticket to the Futsal World Cup for the first time in history, before participating for the second time in 2021.
