On November 5, Mr. Duong Hiep Hung, Chairman of the People's Committee of Nhon Chau island commune, said that the local government, in coordination with the military and border guards, is assisting people in securing their houses, moving their assets and boats to safe places, in response to storm No. 13 (Kalmaegi). The storm is forecast to be strong, heading straight for the mainland of the South Central provinces, with many potential risks of damage.

Since there is no storm shelter on the island, all fishing boats have been moved to safe anchorage in Xuan Lap and Quy Nhon Dong ward. For small motorboats and basket boats, the island militia and soldiers have assisted people in pulling them ashore and bringing them to a safe place for storage.
Since the beginning of the week, the commune has surveyed more than 40 fragile houses and mobilized militia to help people shovel sand to reinforce roofs and houses. The reinforcement work is expected to be completed this afternoon before the storm winds intensify.

Mr. Hung said that about 50 households with 150 people will be evacuated to 20 safe shelters. In addition, on the island there is a solid bunker with a capacity of 2,000 people ready to receive people in case the storm makes a direct landfall.
To ensure life during the storm, the commune proactively reserved 14 tons of food, including 10 tons from the people and 4 tons from the military and border guards.
Notably, the commune government has encouraged seafood farming households to harvest and sell their seafood cages early to minimize damage when the storm hits. Up to now, 36 out of 50 seafood farming rafts have been pulled ashore, the remaining 14 rafts, which have just released fish fry, have been carefully secured and reinforced.
