Over the past two weeks, prolonged heavy rains combined with rising upstream floods have caused widespread flooding in many canals and fields in Tay Ninh and the Dong Thap Muoi region. Hundreds of households in low-lying areas have been isolated, and many residential areas have had to urgently reinforce dykes, seize assets, and mobilize response forces.

In Tay Ninh, more than 2,200 hectares of rice were deeply flooded, nearly 1,000 hectares were completely lost; many areas of vegetables, fruit trees and aquatic products were also severely affected. Production was interrupted while the price of materials and animal feed increased, creating more pressure on farmers.

Faced with that situation, local authorities in the province have activated emergency forces, supported people in reinforcing their houses, building dikes to protect residential areas; at the same time, put up warning signs and regulated traffic at deep flooded and dangerous landslide areas.

Along with that, the agricultural sector guides farmers to harvest early the areas that can still be saved, prepare seeds, materials and plans to restore production after the water recedes. For the areas that have been completely lost, localities are urgently making statistics to implement support policies according to regulations.

Along with that, the health sector has stepped up propaganda on disease prevention and control after floods, distributed disinfectants, clean water and supported the treatment of domestic water sources; groups, organizations and philanthropists continue to support necessities, life jackets and flashlights to help people in flooded areas stabilize their lives soon.

According to the forecast of Tay Ninh Province Hydrometeorological Station, in the coming days, rain may still appear locally, water may recede slowly in many low-lying areas. The meteorological agency recommends that people closely monitor weather developments, limit travel through deep flooded areas, and proactively protect property and livestock.

Faced with more complex and extreme storms and floods than the same period last year, Tay Ninh province has identified the key and urgent task of ensuring people's safety, quickly restoring production, and stabilizing livelihoods; at the same time, promoting investment in irrigation systems, early warning, and improving resilience to climate change and increasingly unusual natural disasters.
