Within the framework of the festival, there will also be a competition to set a record for Ca Mau crabs; a series of events, CamaUP'25 - Ca Mau Province Startup Festival 2025; an international conference on "Innovation for sustainable development of the Ca Mau - Vietnam sea crab industry", along with cultural, sports and tourism activities such as: The 1st Ca Mau Southern Amateur Music Festival; Marathon - Ca Mau 2025...
“The Ca Mau Crab Festival is an important event of the province to promote the potential and strengths of Ca Mau province in terms of economy, culture, tourism, environment, etc. Thereby, creating conditions to connect and call for domestic and foreign organizations and individuals to invest in Ca Mau. Not stopping there, the event also contributes to improving the productivity, output and quality of crabs in particular, and Ca Mau seafood in general; connecting and cooperating with domestic and foreign enterprises and investors to build a complete value chain of the province's sea crab industry; improving the competitiveness of the Ca Mau crab brand in the domestic and international markets", Mr. Ly Vy Trieu Duong affirmed.
The series of events is considered a key solution to promote, enhance brand value and find opportunities to diversify the market for the province's crab industry. Therefore, along with the Ca Mau crab event, Ca Mau province also organized the event "Hello Ca Mau" with the theme: "Awakening potential, creating the future" taking place from November 18 to 22 in Ho Chi Minh City. Accordingly, the event has 3 main activities including: Conference on investment, trade and tourism promotion; Food Festival - Ca Mau Crab Festival" in 2025 and communication, promoting the image of Ca Mau province on various types of press, digital platforms, social networks...
During the period 2021-2025, the Ca Mau crab industry will maintain an important role in the aquaculture economic structure. The stable crab farming area is about 250,000-252,000 hectares, mainly intercropped in shrimp ponds, combined with mangrove forests. The average output is about 25,000-25,200 tons/year.
Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Ca Mau Province Le Van Su assessed that the Ca Mau crab industry has many outstanding advantages for sustainable development in the coming time. In particular, the commercial crab raw material area has been protected by intellectual property rights with the Collective Trademark Certificate "Cua Nam Can - Ca Mau" and the Geographical Indication "Cua Ca Mau". These certificates not only create an important legal basis for quality management, control, and anti-counterfeiting, but also help affirm the brand and the unique economic and cultural value of Ca Mau crab.
At the same time, the local government has issued a plan to develop the crab industry until 2030, emphasizing the development orientation according to the value chain, improving quality and added value. Support policies have been implemented quite diversely, including: supporting trade promotion, promoting brands, promoting links between farmers - cooperatives - enterprises, and encouraging investment in deep processing.
In addition, Ca Mau's natural conditions are also a rare advantage: a large mangrove ecosystem, abundant brackish water resources, and traditional farming practices help crabs grow healthily, have few diseases, and retain their distinctive flavor.
Besides the advantages, the Ca Mau crab industry is still facing many challenges that need to be solved for sustainable development. First of all, crab prices are still fluctuating, depending largely on the demand and import policies of the Chinese market, which accounts for 70-80% of total export output. This dependence increases risks, as soon as this market changes its policies or reduces demand, the price of crabs in the province will drop sharply, directly affecting the income of households.
The current export products are mainly live crabs or whole crabs with low added value. The province's preservation, preliminary processing and deep processing technology is still limited, not fully exploiting the potential to produce high-value products such as: peeled crabs, frozen crabs, canned crabs or pre-processed products to serve the high-end market.
In addition, the scale of crab farming is still small and scattered, mainly by households with intercropping areas in shrimp ponds, and there are not many concentrated farming areas with tight chain links. This causes difficulties in synchronously applying safe biological farming processes, traceability, as well as in quality control.
“Through the upcoming series of events, Ca Mau province wishes to promote the culture, land and people of Ca Mau; the potential and strengths of the local seafood industry, especially the Ca Mau crab industry - the second main industry after the shrimp industry, to domestic and international tourists. Therefore, in all the tasks of preparing for this year's festival, communication activities play a key role in creating a strong effect, spreading the message of the land, people, culture, tourism, cuisine and typical products of Ca Mau - the southernmost land of the Fatherland to domestic and international friends", Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Ca Mau province Le Van Su wished.
