The group of sports with the most competitions and most sets of medals at the 33rd SEA Games are aquatic sports (a total of 50 sets of medals), including: swimming (38 sets of medals), diving (4), synchronized swimming (3), swimming in the natural environment (river, lake, sea, 3 sets of medals), water polo (2). Next are athletics (47 sets of medals), rowing (30), shooting (30).
There are events that appear for the first time at the SEA Games, such as 5-a-side baseball, canoe slalom, coastal rowing, hockey5s, kabbadi (similar to a Vietnamese folk game), kiteboarding, makruk (a combination of Chinese chess and chess, but played in the Thai style), teqball (a hybrid of soccer and table tennis), woodball (a hybrid of golf and bowling).
Vietnam aims to attack the basic sports of the Olympic competition system, aiming to reach the ASIAD and Olympic level. Therefore, at the 33rd SEA Games, Vietnam no longer aims to win the overall title, nor to collect medals in "strange" sports. We aim to be in the top group in the region, by achieving high results in basic sports such as swimming, athletics, rowing, shooting...
As for football, there are 4 events organized by host Thailand, including men's football (for U.23 age group), women's football, men's futsal and women's futsal. Thailand aims to win all 4 gold medals, but Vietnam also tries to compete for high positions in the above 4 events. U.23 Vietnam is the "pioneer" team for the Vietnamese sports delegation, competing the earliest.
On December 5, U.23 Vietnam will have its opening match against U.23 Laos in Chiang Mai. The men's football final will take place on December 18. This is also the match at SEA Games 33 that is expected to have the largest number of Vietnamese people watching on television, because the U.23 Vietnam team has a very high chance of reaching the final.
December 17 will be the women's football final. The women's and men's futsal finals will take place on December 18 and 19, respectively. These are the final days of the Games. Vietnam will compete for the gold medal in the final days of the Games, including wrestling, aerobics, shooting, table tennis, muay...
Therefore, for Vietnamese audiences, SEA Games 33 will be exciting until the day the event ends. Most of the events of SEA Games 33 will be broadcast live on VTV,FPT Play and HTV.
