The US "blocks" China's access to Nvidia's advanced AI chips

White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt confirmed that for the most advanced chip lines, such as the Blackwell chip, the US has no intention of selling to China at this time.

On November 4, White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt confirmed that the Trump administration currently has no plans to allow technology corporation Nvidia to sell its most advanced generation of artificial intelligence (AI) chips - Blackwell - to China.

Speaking at a press conference at the White House, Ms. Leavitt stated: "For the most advanced chip lines, like the Blackwell chip, we have no intention of selling to China at this time."

The statement echoed a position President Trump made on November 2, when he said the most advanced chips produced by the world's most valuable company would be reserved for US businesses and not exported to China or other countries.

There has been speculation since August about whether the US government would allow the export of a version of the Blackwell chip to China.

President Trump has suggested that a reduced-performance version of this new generation GPU could be allowed to be sold in China.

Mr. Trump had left open the possibility of discussing the AI chip issue with Chinese President Xi Jinping at a summit in South Korea last week, but later confirmed that the topic “was not raised.”

Nvidia, now the world's largest company by market capitalization, dominates the global AI chip market.

CEO Jensen said the company has not applied for a license to export chips to China, as China has made it clear it does not want Nvidia there. However, he also stressed that the Chinese market remains important for the company’s research and development activities./.
