Rather than choosing to pursue sports as the sole destination, many Gen Zers see it as an indispensable part, a testament to discipline, a source of healthy energy and a positive lifestyle.
Happy on both tracks
Nguyen Thi Kim Anh (20 years old, from Hue) is currently studying construction economics . At the same time, Anh has been pursuing tug of war for 6 years. "Strong, persistent, emotional" are the keywords that friends often mention about Anh.
She has a strong passion for this sport that requires team spirit and individual skills. The dramatic and exciting matches are an opportunity for Anh to be more confident in her choice. She confidently affirms that she never wants to give up, even when she has to do two tasks at the same time: study well and compete well.
Anh has loved running and exercising since she was a child. In grade 9, she tried tug of war with her peers for the first time and had interesting experiences, which motivated Anh to stick with this sport until now. As a member of the local team, Anh had the opportunity to practice regularly. With the support of friends, teammates and coaches, Anh practiced more seriously. At first, her family was not confident in letting their daughter compete in sports because they were worried about affecting her studies. This was the time when Anh had to think carefully and cleverly allocate her time reasonably. And the efforts really paid off. Anh and her teammates won dozens of gold, silver and bronze medals in major and minor tournaments in Ho Chi Minh City. This was even more meaningful when Anh did not let her academic performance decline.
When the physical condition is improved, the mind becomes clearer, which helps in acquiring knowledge. Therefore, after graduating from university, although she did not intend to become a professional athlete, Anh determined to still prioritize her favorite sport.

Forge your character
For Bui Minh Tuong (19 years old, from Binh Thuan ), getting involved in athletics is a wonderful thing. "Just a pair of shoes and perseverance is enough to live a challenging yet joyful journey" - Tuong confided.
The 1.75 m tall boy is a student of maritime management and an athlete of his hometown team. The journey of youth that he has drawn for himself not only includes days of studying hard in the classroom, but also many sweaty long-distance runs. The junior high school physical education teacher was the one who recognized the special qualities of the student with long strides and extraordinary endurance. Tuong has won many top rankings in grassroots running competitions and the Phu Dong Provincial Sports Festival. Recently, he and his teammates won second prize in the 30th National Cross-Country Mountain Climbing Championship "Conquering Ba Ra Peak" - 2025.
Seeing that his son did not neglect his studies and his health improved day by day, Tuong's parents always cheered and encouraged him. Although he had suffered an injury and had to stop running for a month, Tuong overcame the difficult period and learned a lesson: Rest is also a part of training. When he returned, he was even more diligent and appreciated every step.
According to Tuong, there are many advantages for young people who are passionate about sports today: technology development brings a lot of diverse information, nutrition and training programs are increasingly improved. However, there are still many other objective factors that make young people easily distracted. Therefore, each individual needs to have a clear direction if they want to do well in their professional work and still be able to pursue the sport they love.
Instead of wasting time on short-term entertainment, outside of studying and practicing, Kim Anh and Minh Tuong actively participate in student activities, exchanges, friendships, and volunteer projects. Regular participation in sports activities helps Gen Z like them gain more courage and adaptability, accumulating a foundation for comprehensive development of young people. Thereby, they become more mature, responsible for themselves and the community.
Not only outstanding on the track, Bui Minh Tuong always maintains good academic results (Photo provided by the character)
