As the Lunar New Year approaches, the demand for beauty services increases, and beauty salons, spas, and hair salons are operating at full capacity due to constant overload. However, many people, having chosen unreliable establishments, end up losing money and suffering negative consequences.

I lost money and ended up with a problem.

Wanting a new hairstyle, Le H. (23 years old, a student at the Ho Chi Minh City University of Theatre and Film) saw an advertisement on social media for a beauty salon that claimed to offer "European hair dye at Asian prices," so she decided to go there to get her hair dyed. H. shared that to dye her hair a new color, she had to bleach her old hair, which caused her scalp to sting and hurt, but she endured it for the sake of beauty. When asked if she knew the brand of the hair bleach and dye, H. innocently replied: "No. The staff at the salon just mixed the dye in the room and brought it out; I didn't ask." Because of her trust and desire for a cheap price, H. is now having to go to the Ho Chi Minh City Dermatology Hospital for examination and treatment due to severe hair loss, burning scalp, and eczema.

Ms. LN (35 years old, residing in District 7, Ho Chi Minh City) said that because she wanted brighter skin to feel confident at Tet gatherings with friends, she searched online for methods to lighten her skin quickly. After finding a Fanpage advertising the effects of Mesotherapy injections, she decided to try it. Unexpectedly, after the injection, her skin became swollen and developed an abscess, requiring hospitalization. According to Ms. LN, the beauty salon where she received the Mesotherapy injection advertised that "you'll see changes immediately after just one injection." "Immediate changes were indeed possible, but more accurately, changes for the worse," Ms. LN said sadly.

According to Dr. Dao Hai Yen, a specialist in cosmetic surgery, Mesotherapy is a micro-injection method that uses small needles to deliver very small amounts of medication directly into the skin to create biological stimulation, thereby achieving the desired treatment. Mesotherapy is primarily used in skin rejuvenation, skin whitening, hair loss treatment, acne treatment, etc. Some common side effects of Mesotherapy injections include swelling, bruising at the injection site, abscess formation, and cellulitis at the injection site. Therefore, the injection facility must ensure sterile conditions and proper injection techniques to minimize complications.

According to Dr. Nguyen Phan Tu Dung, Director of JW Korean Hospital, during the end-of-year period, many beauty clinics exploit the desire for "quick" beauty treatments for the Lunar New Year holiday, launching advertising campaigns promising fast results along with attractive promotional packages. Because they trust these advertisements, many people unknowingly become victims, spending money on beauty treatments but ending up using low-quality cosmetics and products from these establishments. However, the widespread advertising of cosmetic services and exaggerated claims on social media is currently very difficult to manage and control.

“Many beauty establishments over-advertise their services, some are not licensed to perform cosmetic procedures, and some even advertise extensively on social media to attract customers, even though the practitioners are not doctors. Therefore, before deciding where to get beauty treatments, we should research and check which beauty establishments are licensed to perform procedures and who will perform the procedure, whether that person is a licensed doctor,” Dr. Nguyen Phan Tu Dung stated.

Furthermore, to avoid unwanted complications and harm from using cosmetic additives, users should protect themselves by requesting that beauty establishments check the brand name, origin, source, and expiration date of the product. This is because all cosmetic additives used on the human body must be licensed and certified for widespread use. Users can also ask hair salons to show the origin and source of the hair bleach and dye they will be using, as these products can be harmful if they are of poor quality or contain dangerous chemicals.

Dr. Bui Manh Ha, Head of the Referral Department at the Ho Chi Minh City Dermatology Hospital, stated that when using hair dye, the chemicals can directly affect the scalp or be absorbed into the bloodstream, causing long-term effects. Using low-quality hair dyes, due to a lack of strict ingredient control, poses many risks to users. PPED (para-phenylenediamine), a chemical commonly used in black hair dye, is an active ingredient that can easily cause allergies, asthma, and severe poisoning upon contact. Furthermore, hair dyes can contain many other chemicals that can negatively impact health, such as causing endocrine disorders, depression, and headaches.

The Inspectorate of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health has issued a notice urging all customers who have received cosmetic services at Pfizers Business (2B-2C Ho Xuan Huong Street, Vo Thi Sau Ward, District 3) to promptly provide complaints, records, and documents to the District 3 Police for resolution within their jurisdiction. Pfizers Business has repeatedly violated regulations in the healthcare sector; changed its signage and defied authorities.

Previously, SGGP newspaper published an article titled "Beauty salon impersonating famous pharmaceutical brand continues to operate brazenly despite temporary suspension," reflecting the reality that this business not only failed to comply with the administrative penalty decision but also deliberately repeated the violation, continuing to advertise scar treatment, injections, etc.
