UMT temporarily suspends the work of director Nguyen Tra Giang to verify the accusation.

The President of Ho Chi Minh City University of Management and Technology (UMT) has just issued a decision to temporarily suspend the work and position of Dr. Nguyen Tra Giang - Director of the UMT Institute of Sports Science and Management.

Previously, on November 24, Dr. Nguyen Tra Giang launched the book A Unified System Fitness Design (USFD - Comprehensive and inclusive fitness model).

However, shortly after, Mr. Oliver Napila Gomez (Filipino) - co-author of the above book - sent an email to UMT School, and posted a series of accusations on social networks, saying: "I am the sole author of the book USFD".

Temporarily suspended from work because the school received many complaints

According to the above decision, Dr. Nguyen Tra Giang was temporarily suspended from work and position for 15 days, starting from January 7 to January 21.

The reason for the temporary suspension, UMT said that it had received many complaints from individuals about Dr. Nguyen Tra Giang and this information was affecting the reputation of the school. Therefore, the school needed to clarify related issues.

According to the school, during the suspension period, Dr. Nguyen Tra Giang is temporarily suspended from work at school and is not allowed to contact students/parents, and is also given an advance salary according to the provisions of the Labor Code.

At the same time, the school requires Ms. Giang to ensure continuous communication (via personal phone number and email) with the school. When the school summons, Ms. Giang must be present.

Ms. Giang is responsible for handing over the work she is in charge of to the secretary of the Institute of Science and Sports Management before taking a break.

Transfer of sports management to the faculty of business

Previously, on December 16, 2024, the principal of UMT issued a decision to transfer the sports management department from the Institute of Sports Science and Management to the Faculty of Business.

The head of the business faculty shall draft regulations on the functions, tasks, powers and organizational structure of the unit based on the school's development orientation and strategy, and submit them to the principal for consideration and promulgation.

At the same time, a decision was issued on the assignment of work to the members of the UMT School's board of directors, assigning Mr. Le Van Nam - Vice Principal of the school - to be in charge of the Institute of Sports Science and Management.

The school also requires Ms. Nguyen Tra Giang to hand over all information, records, and documents (paper/soft files on computer) related to the sports management department to Dr. Le Thi Ngoc Tu - head of the business faculty - and the personnel designated by Dr. Tu to receive them by 5:30 p.m. on January 6 at the latest.

Request Ms. Giang to receive instructions from the board of directors and coordinate with the administrative personnel department to readjust the functions and tasks of the Institute of Sports Science and Management as per the above decision.

Dr. Nguyen Tra Giang proposed to consider withdrawing the suspension decision.

On the evening of January 6, Ms. Giang confirmed that she had just received an email with the school principal’s decision regarding her temporary suspension from work and position. She also said that she had responded to the school.

"In the spirit of goodwill, I will first cooperate with the school's internal management. However, I request that the school's leadership reconsider the above decision because the temporary suspension of me in this case is not in accordance with the provisions of the current Labor Code.

According to current regulations, employers can only suspend employees when there is a "violation of labor regulations", while I have not violated any regulations. Regarding the reason given by the school for the suspension, I find it unclear and objective.

I request that the board of directors consider withdrawing the decision to suspend me, and at the same time I request that the school arrange a meeting to resolve this issue once and for all," said Ms. Giang.

'The school complies with the provisions of the Labor Code'

Talking to Tuoi Tre Online about the above decision, a representative of Ho Chi Minh City University of Management and Technology affirmed: "The school is implementing the suspension of Ms. Giang in accordance with the provisions of the current Labor Code. If Ms. Giang has any questions or complaints, please follow the provisions of the Labor Code and the implementing instructions.

The transfer of the sports management department to the business faculty is under the authority of the school board and has been approved by the school board, and the training for the school's students is still guaranteed to follow the correct training program and roadmap.

This temporary suspension is also to give the school time to verify some information. When the school has accurate results, it will inform you."
