Affirming identity

Over 80 years of construction and development, Vietnamese art education has achieved important achievements, contributing practically to the cause of comprehensive human development, preserving and promoting national cultural values, meeting the country's innovation requirements in the period of integration and development.

These achievements are not only reflected in the increasingly improved system of policies, programs, teaching staff and facilities, but also demonstrated through the raising of awareness of the whole society about the role and position of art in education.

Right from the first years after the August Revolution in 1945, our Party and State clearly identified the role of art in the cause of education and development of national culture. From a place lacking in facilities and staff, the art education sector has been gradually consolidated and developed.

The art education system from preschool, primary, secondary, high school to intermediate, college, university and postgraduate levels has been formed, with many rich types of training such as: music , fine arts, dance, theater, cinema, photography, design, fashion, traditional arts...

Currently, the country has hundreds of formal art training institutions, including many universities and specialized academies: Vietnam National Academy of Music, Military University of Culture and Arts, Hue University of Arts, Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory of Music, Hanoi University of Theatre and Cinema...

These institutions not only train artists, teachers, and cultural and arts managers, but also play an important role in researching, creating, and spreading artistic values in society.

One of the important milestones of Vietnamese art education is the official inclusion of art subjects such as Music and Fine Arts into the general education program from a very early age. This is a big step forward in aesthetic education, forming the ability to perceive and express art for students.

Through these subjects, Vietnamese children not only have access to basic knowledge of music and painting, but also nurture a love of beauty, develop creativity, imagination and the ability to express emotions.

In particular, in the new general education program implemented from 2020 - 2021, music and art education has made a clear shift. The Art subject is built with the orientation of developing capacity, combining music and fine arts, creating conditions for students to practice more, be proactive and creative, while helping teachers flexibly choose teaching methods suitable for each student and the material conditions of each locality.

Over the years, the education sector has had many policies and programs to train art teachers.

The transformation of art education

One of the important factors contributing to the success of music and art education is the teaching staff. Over the years, the education sector has had many policies and training programs for art teachers, especially music and art teachers at preschool and high school levels.

The team of music and art teachers is increasingly standardized, improving their professional qualifications and pedagogical skills. Not only are they good at their profession, many teachers are also creative and able to organize attractive art activities, contributing to enriching school life.

At the same time, many music and art teachers have actively participated in local cultural and artistic movements, becoming the core force to inspire art to the community.

In the digital age, Vietnamese music and art education has also made progress in applying technology to teaching and learning. The use of music teaching software, online platforms, video lectures, virtual studios, etc. has helped lessons become more lively, attractive and accessible to more students.

In addition, teaching methods are always innovated to promote students' activities. Music and art teachers know how to combine theory and practice, individual and group, traditional and modern knowledge to help students develop creative thinking, expressive skills and artistic appreciation.

A significant achievement is that art education has actively contributed to the preservation and promotion of Vietnamese cultural identity. Through the curriculum and extracurricular activities, students are exposed to many traditional art forms such as folk songs, Cheo, Tuong, Cai Luong, water puppetry, traditional architecture, etc. These cultural values are not only passed down but also created and innovated through the lens of the younger generation.

School art competitions, music and art festivals for students, life skills education programs through art, school clubs, etc. have created favorable environments for students to develop their talents, express their personalities and practice self-confidence in front of the public. These activities not only contribute to the development of personal capacity, but also foster patriotism, national pride and responsibility to preserve cultural heritage.
