Teaching 2 sessions/day to meet the trend of educational innovation

GD&TĐ - The policy of organizing two teaching sessions per day, aiming at comprehensive development of students, is being actively welcomed and implemented by schools.

In order to concretize Directive No. 17/CT-TTg dated June 6, 2025 of the Prime Minister and realize the spirit of Resolution 29-NQ/TW on fundamental and comprehensive education innovation, the Ministry of Education and Training has directed and guided the organization of teaching 2 sessions/day for general education from the 2025-2026 school year. Accordingly, session 1 organizes teaching of general education program, session 2 organizes consolidation activities for students to complete learning content and comprehensively develop morality - intelligence - physical fitness - aesthetics.

Expanding opportunities for comprehensive development for students

Mr. Duong Xuan Binh, Principal of Phu Binh High School ( Thai Nguyen province) affirmed: The implementation of organizing 2 sessions/day is an important step, very suitable for the trend of educational innovation, helping students to study and practice more comprehensively, while also reducing the pressure of extra classes outside of school.

In that spirit, Phu Binh High School identifies the first session as the time to implement the official general education program; the second session is the time to organize supplementary educational activities, develop capacity, nurture excellent students, tutor students who have not met requirements, life skills education, financial education, art education, physical education, STEM, career guidance, artificial intelligence, foreign languages... in the direction of comprehensive development suitable for students' psychology.

Besides, we must also acknowledge that in the actual implementation, the school still faces certain difficulties. “Due to the actual conditions regarding the number of teachers for each subject and the requirements in arranging teaching hours, organizing 2 sessions/day cannot meet the expectations,” Mr. Duong Xuan Binh shared.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Tuyet Mai, Principal of Tan Thinh Secondary School (Phan Dinh Phung Ward, Thai Nguyen Province) said: The policy of teaching 2 sessions/day opens up better opportunities for students to develop comprehensively in terms of capacity and qualities, through diverse educational activities, in accordance with the spirit of the 2018 General Education Program.

Accordingly, Tan Thinh Secondary School discussed with parents, based on students' registration, and then selected to organize some content in the second session such as: Talent club activities, nurturing excellent students, reviewing for final year students... Thanks to the educational activities in the second session, the students were very excited and motivated in studying and developing themselves.

However, according to Ms. Nguyen Thi Tuyet Mai, the reality of the school as well as some educational institutions in the area shows that, in order for the organization of teaching 2 sessions/day to be effective, the education sector and all levels also need to continue to pay attention to better meet the quota of teachers, classroom conditions, facilities and equipment serving teaching for schools.

Ensure practicality

Mr. Dao Xuan Tan, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training of Thai Nguyen, affirmed that the education sector's implementation of two-session teaching/day contributes significantly to concretizing and realizing the spirit of Resolution 29-NQ/TW on fundamental and comprehensive education innovation.

In order to implement uniformly and effectively, the Department of Education and Training of Thai Nguyen has guided educational institutions to develop school education plans that ensure practicality, flexibility, feasibility, and suitability with the conditions of the teaching staff, facilities, and existing teaching equipment.

Accordingly, the plan needs to clearly demonstrate the plan to mobilize and effectively use resources to organize 2 sessions/day at qualified educational institutions, contributing to improving the quality of program implementation according to Directive No. 17/CT-TTg dated June 6, 2025 of the Prime Minister and guiding documents of the Ministry of Education and Training, the Provincial People's Committee and the Department of Education and Training; must specify the content, duration, time, location, and students who are organized to study 2 sessions/day; assign teachers reasonably and scientifically, ensuring compliance with regulations on working time, in accordance with the teaching and learning conditions of each school.

“The development and implementation of school education plans must prioritize the quality and results of teaching and learning activities; be consistent with the practical situation of facilities and teaching staff; and ensure absolute safety for students in terms of security, order, health, nutrition, and school hygiene,” Mr. Dao Xuan Tan emphasized.
