According to the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine, Ministry of Agriculture and Environment , despite being affected by natural disasters and African swine fever, Vietnam's livestock production has maintained growth since the beginning of 2025. Notably, pork production increased by 5.9% and poultry meat increased by 4.9% in the first 6 months of the year thanks to stable prices and high market demand.
Entering the fourth quarter of 2025, the livestock industry is facing many challenges such as African swine fever, extreme weather impacts, and high costs of animal feed and veterinary medicine. However, the industry has proactively coordinated with relevant units to assess the situation, develop scenarios to regulate supply and demand, and stabilize the market. In particular, the focus during this period is to ensure adequate food supply for the 2026 Lunar New Year.
According to the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine, from now until the end of the year, meat consumption demand is forecast to increase by about 15-20%, especially during the Lunar New Year 2026 when the demand for food processing and storage increases sharply. In the last month of the year alone, the market will need more than 500,000 tons of pork - the main food source in Vietnamese people's Tet meals. To ensure supply, many businesses and farm owners have proactively restored their herds, increasing output by 20-30% over the same period, while ensuring disease safety to stabilize supply and prices during the peak season at the end of the year.
Accordingly, the annual pork output is expected to reach 5.5 million tons. In addition to farms, large units and enterprises have made early plans to meet the demand for pork of over 500,000 tons in the last month of the year.
