80 years ago, President Ho Chi Minh signed the Decree establishing the Ministry of Agriculture, marking the birth of Vietnam's agricultural sector. Through historical periods, the agricultural sector of the country in general and Ca Mau province in particular has continuously developed, transforming from self-sufficient production to modern commodity agriculture.

Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Le Van Su hopes that the Department of Agriculture and Environment will promote its pivotal role, soon making Ca Mau truly become a growth pole of the Mekong Delta region.

In Ca Mau, the agricultural sector has made its mark through many periods: steadfastly sticking to the people and the land during the resistance war (1945-1975); expanding the shrimp-rice and mangrove areas during the Minh Hai period (1975-1996); developing rapidly after the re-establishment of the province (1997); merging the Department of Fisheries with the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (2008); and by 2025, it will be a new step forward when the sector is organized according to the model of the Department of Agriculture and Environment, demonstrating the mindset of sustainable development associated with climate change.

Comrade Ta Minh Phu, former Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Bac Lieu province, shared his thoughts on the development of the industry.

Over 80 years of formation and development, the Agriculture and Environment sector of Ca Mau province has achieved many outstanding achievements:

*Aquatic product output - especially shrimp, always leads the country, with export turnover reaching over 2.27 billion USD/year.

*Rice area is over 315,000 hectares, of which 93,000 hectares are shrimp - rice; organic farming rate reaches over 80%.

*85% of communes meet new rural standards; irrigation, traffic, electricity and water infrastructure are greatly improved.

*Mangrove forests and environmental resources are protected, forest cover ratio remains stable.

At the ceremony, Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment To Hoai Phuong launched a special emulation movement with the theme: "Innovation - Creativity - Breakthrough and Aspiration", aiming to successfully complete the tasks in 2025, welcoming the 14th National Party Congress.

In his speech, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Le Van Su emphasized the "supporting" role of the agricultural sector for the province's socio-economic development. He requested the sector to focus on developing green, circular agriculture; promoting the application of high technology and digital transformation; maximizing the advantages of forest shrimp and shrimp-rice; sustainably managing land, forest and sea resources; developing deep processing industry; improving the capacity of origin tracing to meet international standards. He also emphasized the need to build a team of cadres with "solid expertise, bright ethics, daring to think and daring to do", contributing to making Ca Mau a growth pole of the Mekong Delta.

On this occasion, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment awarded the Medal "For the cause of Agriculture and Rural Development" to 57 individuals. The Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee awarded Certificates of Merit to 6 groups and 30 individuals with outstanding achievements in building and developing the industry.

The Department of Agriculture and Environment of the province received a Certificate of Merit from the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee.

Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Council Phan Hoang Vu awarded certificates of merit from the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee to individuals.

Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Le Van Su awarded certificates of merit to individuals with outstanding achievements.

At the ceremony, 6 groups and 30 individuals from the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of the province received certificates of merit from the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee.
