The Lam Dong Provincial Department of Health has recently issued a document to strengthen efforts in combating counterfeit medicines and health supplements, addressed to all local health departments, district and city health offices, and retail drug businesses and distributors in the area.
Accordingly, the Department of Health has directed medical facilities to review their drug procurement and supply processes; ensuring that all drugs supplied are those with valid marketing authorization and are supplied by legitimate pharmaceutical businesses with complete invoices and documentation. In cases where drugs show suspicious signs of abnormality or are not licensed for circulation, they must be immediately sealed, their use discontinued, and reported to the relevant authorities for inspection and handling.
The Inspectorate of the Department of Health, in coordination with relevant agencies, is stepping up inspections of businesses involved in the distribution of medicines and health supplements. The focus is on verifying the origin and source of products, and compliance with Good Distribution Practice (GDP) and Good Retail Practice (GPP) principles.
The Department of Health also directed the establishment of a hotline to receive reports about counterfeit and illegally sourced drugs, in order to promptly coordinate inspections, trace the origin, and strictly handle violations.
The Provincial Center for Disease Control has been tasked with strengthening public awareness campaigns, advising people to only purchase medicines from legitimate establishments and to avoid using unregulated or unverified medicines and health supplements. Meanwhile, the Lam Dong Provincial Center for Pharmaceutical and Cosmetic Testing is intensifying sampling, testing, and quality control to promptly detect counterfeit and substandard products.
The health departments of districts and cities will continue to coordinate with relevant authorities to regularly inspect retail pharmacies in their areas, tightening management of the business activities of medicines and health supplements.
