According to the Law on Saving and Combating Waste No. 110/2025/QH15, May 31st of each year is designated as the National Day for Saving and Combating Waste.

2026 marks the first time the National Day for Saving and Combating Waste will be held nationwide. This activity aims to raise awareness throughout society about the significance and importance of practicing saving and combating waste; strengthen compliance with the law; and thereby create positive changes in the awareness and actions of individuals and organizations, contributing to building a culture of saving throughout society.

On May 24, 2026, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung signed Decision No. 924/QD-TTg on the Plan for implementing activities in response to the National Day for Saving and Combating Waste in 2026.

According to this decision, the theme of this year's National Day for Saving and Combating Waste is "Energy Saving – A Prosperous Future" . The theme aims to raise awareness and responsibility among all levels, sectors, the business community, and the entire population in the efficient use of resources, especially energy, to serve sustainable socio -economic development. At the same time, it affirms the role of a culture of saving and combating waste in state management and social life.

The Ministry of Finance stated that the activities in response will focus on disseminating the Party's guidelines and policies, and the State's laws on practicing thrift and combating waste, especially regulations on the efficient and effective use of energy.

In addition, emulation movements and competitions will be launched to receive and disseminate initiatives and solutions on saving and combating waste, with a focus on initiatives that use energy efficiently. Many collectives and individuals with outstanding achievements, good models, and effective methods will also be commended and rewarded.

Through activities in response to the National Day for Saving and Combating Waste in 2026, the Government calls on all citizens to promote the spirit of practicing thrift in accordance with the thoughts and example of President Ho Chi Minh; to join hands in building a thrifty lifestyle, using resources effectively, and contributing to creating a prosperous, green, and sustainable future for the country.
