On the evening of December 23rd, the cast and crew of the film "The Soul Eater" held a meet-and-greet with the audience in Hanoi . The film is adapted from the upcoming novel of the same name by author Thao Trang. She is also the author of "Tet in Hell Village ," a work that has garnered significant audience attention recently.

The film features many images steeped in folklore, with a wedding procession scene inspired by the painting " The Mouse Wedding," traditional Northern Vietnamese costumes from the past, and children's rhymes... However, these familiar elements are all imbued with an eerie atmosphere.

"With unique folk imagery, a fantastical story, meticulously crafted costumes, character designs, and makeup, along with expert historical consultants and a multi-generational cast from both North and South Vietnam, we aim to deliver a fantastical horror film with a strong folk flavor at the end of the year," a representative from the production company stated.

Actress Lan Phuong, who plays the role of Thap Nuong in the film, was also present at the event. The actress is currently six months pregnant and is due to give birth after the Lunar New Year in 2024. Although she was quite heavy and easily tired, she still smiled and was full of energy when interacting with the audience.

Speaking to a reporter from Dan Tri newspaper , Lan Phuong said that she received an invitation to act in the film at the end of 2022, but hesitated because she was planning to have a child. Later, she decided to participate in this film and has many fond memories from the filming experience.

To play the role of Thập Nương, Lan Phương had to undergo very elaborate makeup. To appear with a terrifying face, long black fingernails, and an eerie smile, she spent 5 hours on makeup and over an hour removing it.

"It looks simple, but the makeup team had to glue fake skin onto my face. There were times when I had to leave that face on for two days to avoid having to reapply makeup, even though it was a bit inconvenient, I had to try," Lan Phuong said.

The actress shared that her role was psychologically demanding, but thanks to the director's support, her performance was much more enjoyable and effortless. In the film, there were some scenes involving crawling, fighting, and physical combat with her co-stars, but she performed them herself without using a stunt double.

The film was recorded.   In Ha Giang, Lan Phuong had to travel back and forth constantly between Hanoi and Ha Giang, taking long bus journeys, navigating treacherous roads, and working in the freezing weather and harsh living conditions of the Northwest region.

Speaking about her personal life, Lan Phuong said that she and her husband have bought an apartment in Hanoi to settle down and prepare for the arrival of their second child.

Soon, her husband will be transferred to another city for work, possibly living far away from his wife and children for a while, but the couple will make arrangements to ensure the family remains close.

The actress confided that she didn't have to live like a daughter-in-law because her in-laws live abroad. When they learned they were expecting another grandchild, her in-laws were very happy.

"My in-laws are both Westerners, so their culture is very different from ours. They never demand that I do this or that, and they don't even require me to prepare dinner."

"I have a very good relationship with my mother-in-law. When I visit, she's the one who cooks, and she's very good at it. My in-laws don't interfere in their children's lives. They listen to our concerns and don't impose their will, unless we ask for their opinion," she shared.

The film "The Soul Eater" was directed by Tran Huu Tan and produced by Hoang Quan. Besides Lan Phuong, the film also features actors such as People's Artist Ngoc Thu, Meritorious Artist Chieu Xuan, Hoang Ha, and others.
