Expanding training programs for integrated circuit design professionals.

Recently, many provinces and cities such as Dong Nai and Binh Duong have implemented training programs for microchip human resources and are gradually forming microchip design centers. This spread stems from the microchip training program at the Ho Chi Minh City High-Tech Park (SHTP).

A groundbreaking event in integrated circuit design training was the launch of the Electronics and Semiconductor Training Center (ESC) in September 2023 by SHTP – the first internationally standardized training center in Vietnam, located at the SHTP Training Center.

“ESC is considered to be the provider of the most comprehensive training program currently available, adhering to IPC (International Process Control) standards, widely adopted by global technology corporations. The training program is directly taught by Vietnamese experts with many years of experience working at major electronics corporations in Silicon Valley (USA). The training focuses on key areas as the SHTP Training Center collaborates with many global integrated circuit (IC) corporations such as Mediatek, Synopsys, Sun Electronics… to improve the quality of training and IC design,” shared Mr. Nguyen Duc Huy, Director of the SHTP Training Center.

Based on the model and capabilities of ESC, many provinces and cities have announced training programs in integrated circuit design. In early January 2024, Thu Dau Mot University (Binh Duong) and Sun Edu (an ESC member) launched an intensive training course in integrated circuit design for lecturers. At the end of January 2024, ESC and Lac Hong University signed a cooperation agreement to establish an integrated circuit center in Dong Nai. This event received attention from the leaders of Dong Nai province, who stated they would implement mechanisms and policies to encourage universities to train personnel in the integrated circuit industry.

According to Professor Dang Luong Mo, identifying a standardized training model, closely linked to the development of the microchip industry worldwide, is the direction that microchip human resource training centers should aim for. From the ESC at SHTP and through recent collaborations with universities in the South, not only is training expanded, but the development of high-quality human resources in microchip design is also being fostered to meet the future workforce demands of investors and businesses.

In 2024, SHTP aims to contribute to making Vietnam a semiconductor integrated circuit design center for the region and the world, beginning to train human resources and contributing to the replication of training models. “Ho Chi Minh City has identified electronics and integrated circuits as one of its priority sectors, so the SHTP Management Board will not only continue to strengthen cooperation to train human resources but also have policies to attract investment in this field to develop the city's integrated circuit industry,” said Mr. Nguyen Anh Thi, Head of the SHTP Management Board.
