Implementing the campaign "All people practice physical training following the example of great Uncle Ho", recently, the physical training and sports movement in Dong Ha city has been taking place vigorously, spreading widely among all classes of people.

The beautiful scene in Dong Ha every morning and evening now takes place on several streets in the city center, suburbs, and parks, where many people participate in sports and physical activities according to their age, health, and passion. This year, 72-year-old Mrs. Nguyen Thi Lan from Ward 1, Block 6, participates in sports and physical activities at Fidel Park every day. Dancing folk dances with other women in the neighborhood and walking are activities that Mrs. Lan enjoys.

"Previously, I only exercised occasionally, but since my friends told me about the benefits of regular exercise, I've been dedicating at least 45 minutes each day to physical activity. Thanks to regular exercise, my high cholesterol has almost completely disappeared, and I feel much more relaxed and cheerful," Ms. Lan shared.

Sharing this view, Mr. Nguyen Chi Dung, residing in Quarter 2, Ward 5, believes that practicing sports brings many health benefits. Therefore, for nearly five years, he has spent about 40 minutes playing badminton with friends almost every day. “Before, I didn’t play any sports, but after watching a few games and being encouraged by friends, I chose badminton. With its high intensity and the need for flexibility and agility, this sport offers many benefits for both physical and mental health.”

Folk dancing, walking, badminton or cycling, football, volleyball, tennis, jogging, martial arts, swimming, aerobics... are the sports that many Dong Ha people choose to practice, improve their health and participate in competitions when they have the opportunity.

According to information from the Dong Ha City Cultural and Sports Information Center, 40.3% of the city's population regularly participates in physical training and sports; 54.4% of families regularly participate in physical training and sports and meet the standards of a "sports family". There are currently hundreds of clubs and sports training centers operating regularly in the city. Mass sports activities are organized enthusiastically from the city level to the grassroots, especially during major national holidays and festivals.

As of the end of April, the People's Committee of Dong Ha City, in coordination with VietRace365 Joint Stock Company and Quang Tri Runners Club, organized the 2024 Dong Ha City Marathon - A Breakthrough Journey in the Land of Fire. This was the first large-scale marathon held in Dong Ha City, with the participation of 2,500 male and female professional and amateur athletes competing in three distances: 5 km, 10 km, and 21 km.

The success of this event not only lays the groundwork for the Dong Ha City Marathon to become an annual event, thereby further stimulating the sports and physical training movement in the area, but also serves as an opportunity to promote the image of the land and people of Quang Tri in general, and Dong Ha City in particular, to friends near and far, contributing to the development of local tourism .

The quality of teaching and learning physical education in the curriculum and the development of extracurricular sports in schools are constantly improving. For example, at the 7th Quang Tri Provincial Phu Dong Sports Festival in 2024, the City Department of Education and Training was awarded the First Prize overall in the Department of Education and Training category; Dong Ha High School was awarded the First Prize overall in the High School category.

The sports and physical training movement among civil servants, public employees, workers, and officers and soldiers of the armed forces has seen positive changes. Along with the strong development of the mass sports and physical training movement, the selection and training of athletes to participate in high-performance sports competitions has always been given attention, achieving good results at provincial sports festivals...

Director of Dong Ha City Center for Culture, Information and Sports Hoang Thanh Su said: "In order for the local sports movement to develop further, the city has done a good job of disseminating information and propaganda about the Party's policies and the State's laws on sports development.

Authorities and wards encourage and create favorable conditions for people to practice sports and physical training; for organizations and individuals to participate in building and developing sports groups and clubs; to restore and develop traditional sports; and to organize many sports movements and competitions for all ages. Along with that, many resources have been mobilized to invest in developing infrastructure and equipment to serve the people's sports training and competition."

To date, Dong Ha has 1 stadium, 11 training facilities, 6 permanent swimming pools, 14 11-a-side football fields, over 100 mini football fields, 47 volleyball courts, 26 tennis courts, 50 badminton courts, 9 sports training rooms, 5 recreational areas for children and teenagers; public places such as Fidel Park, Le Duan Park, the sidewalks of Hoang Dieu Street... all have free sports training equipment; 9 out of 9 wards have planned land for sports; a central cultural and sports complex has been built...

This is the basic condition for the sports training movement in the central urban area of ​​the province to develop more and more, spreading the campaign "All people exercise following the example of great Uncle Ho".
