Playing a pivotal role, women's associations at all levels in the province have proactively developed plans to implement the program, conducting reviews, gathering information, and verifying the circumstances of each orphaned child in the area. From there, the associations connect with organizations, individuals, and philanthropists to provide suitable sponsorship for each child.
The fundraising efforts are carried out systematically and flexibly through various forms, from mobilizing members, women, agencies, businesses, and organizations to connecting with philanthropists inside and outside the province. "Godmothers" can choose to directly support care and upbringing or indirectly through the association. Importantly, to ensure transparency and engagement, association officials directly bring sponsors to visit each family, verify their circumstances, and provide ongoing support throughout the sponsorship process.
One of the program's key forms of support is providing monthly financial assistance to orphans. This assistance varies, ranging from 200,000 to 1,000,000 VND per child per month. The minimum support period is 12 months, with the longest support lasting until the children reach 18 years of age.
In Quang Yen town, the program has received a positive response. To date, women's associations at all levels have mobilized and connected organizations and individuals to sponsor 30 disadvantaged children in the communes and wards. Specifically, the Women's Union of Quang Yen town directly sponsors one child in Hamlet 8, Song Khoai commune; the Women's Union of the Town Police sponsors one child in Bau Hamlet, Lien Vi commune; and 19 local women's associations sponsor 22 children with support ranging from 300,000 to 500,000 VND per child per month, maintained for a period of 3 years or more. In addition, the Women's Union of Quang Yen town and its local branches have actively connected and mobilized 6 benefactors to sponsor 6 orphaned children with special circumstances, providing support of 500,000 VND per child per month for 3 years.
“We sincerely hope to continue receiving the support of the entire society so that more children can receive assistance. Sponsorship is not only about direct care, but can also be provided through forms such as scholarships, material and emotional support… to help alleviate their pain, overcome difficulties, and continue to move forward in life,” shared Vu Ngan Ha, President of the Women's Union of Quang Yen Town.
The "Godmother" program also acknowledges the dedicated participation of many organizations and individuals. Notable examples include the Bao Viet Insurance Office, Bai Chay branch (Ha Long City), which has supported Vu Thanh H with 700,000 VND per month for 5 years, and the Women's Association of the Provincial Military Command continues to sponsor him until he turns 18. Mr. Nguyen Huy Ninh, a philanthropist in Uong Bi City, sponsors Pham Trung H in Quang Yen Town with 500,000 VND per month until he turns 18. The Women Entrepreneurs Club of Dong Trieu City sponsors two children with 1 million VND per child per month for 3 years. The Women's Union of Mong Cai City not only sponsors Mai Thi Lan A until she reaches adulthood but also actively mobilizes additional community resources to contribute. Besides cash, philanthropists also provide material support such as essential necessities, tuition fees, and school supplies.
Financial support is usually provided directly on a quarterly or semi-annual basis, witnessed and monitored by local women's organizations. In addition to monthly financial support, women's associations and benefactors regularly visit, encourage, and give gifts to the children on special occasions, such as Lunar New Year, International Children's Day (June 1st), Mid-Autumn Festival, and the start of the new school year.
The "Godmother" program is not only a connecting thread of love, but also spreads a profound spirit of mutual support and compassion throughout the community. These acts of kindness and responsible sharing from society are contributing to a brighter future for many vulnerable individuals.
