The event aims to share academic perspectives on current reading culture and create a forum for exchange among experts, lecturers, and students. From there, it seeks to spread the spirit of lifelong learning through reading.
Emphasizing the important role of reading in students' learning, research, and self-improvement, Associate Professor Dr. Duong Thang Long – Vice Rector of Hanoi Open University – noted that in the digital age, the methods of accessing knowledge have undergone many changes.
However, the core value of reading remains consistently affirmed. The school always prioritizes building an open learning environment, encouraging a reading culture, and developing a modern library system. This aims to meet the increasingly diverse learning and research needs of its students.

Speaking at the program, Ms. Doan Quynh Dung – Deputy Director of the Department of Grassroots Culture, Family and Libraries (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism) highly appreciated the efforts of Hanoi Open University in promoting the reading movement and developing a reading culture among students.
In the context of digital technology profoundly impacting social life, Ms. Dung emphasized that maintaining a reading habit and developing the right information access skills is a crucial task for the younger generation.
According to her, programs like the seminar "Reading in the Digital Age" not only contribute to raising awareness but also motivate students to proactively study, research, and develop themselves.

Within the framework of the seminar, a debate was held on the topic: "Reading paper books or reading digital books – which is the choice for students in the digital age?". The debate revealed that each form of reading has its own advantages and disadvantages. Paper books offer a deeper reading experience and lasting cultural value. Digital books open up the possibility of accessing knowledge quickly and widely in the technological age.
These two forms of reading are not mutually exclusive, but rather coexist and complement each other in the digital age. The most important thing is not choosing between paper or digital books, but how to nurture and develop a reading culture in the digital age.

On this occasion, Mr. Nguyen Huu Gioi – President of the Vietnam Library Association and member of the judging panel for the HOU Reading Culture Ambassador Contest 2026 – shared his thoughts on developing reading culture in the context of current digital transformation.
