The Urban Widetrack Heritage Series Soft-Top, Urban Automotive's first open-top SUV based on the Land Rover Defender 90, is one of three new models debuting at the 2025 Goodwood Festival of Speed. “The Land Rover Defender is one of our most popular models, so it’s exciting to add this unique bespoke convertible version. The partnership with Heritage Customs has been a huge success, and I’m delighted to welcome them to the Urban family,” said Simon Dearn, founder of Urban Automotive.
Based on the Heritage Customs limited edition Valiance Convertible, this Defender is enhanced with a Widetrack exterior design package and Hermes Orange leather interior, Recaro front seats, and a custom Heritage Series dashboard. With five seats, a power folding roof, and legendary Land Rover off-road capability... The Widetrack package includes flared wheel arches, an XRS (Extreme Road Series) bonnet with exposed carbon fibre air vents, a front spoiler, square DRLs, carbon fibre mirror caps and ‘Best of British’ carbon fibre side sill accents. The car is finished off with 23-inch Urban WX-2 R black alloy wheels, shod with Yokohama Advan Sport tyres. All bespoke carbon fibre components are designed and manufactured by Urban’s team in the UK, following the “OEM+” philosophy to ensure superior quality, style and durability. Heritage Customs was the first company to convert a Defender into a convertible, a process that required hours of labour to cut the bodywork and reinforce it with a roll cage.
The partnership with Heritage Customs was so successful that Urban bought the company, launching the Heritage line of accessories, parts and interior customization for the Bespoke division. Both Urban and Heritage Customs were founded by enthusiasts who are passionate about customizing high-end vehicles, with the Land Rover Defender being their focus. Jan-Pieter Kroezen - Founder of Heritage Customs: “The collaboration with Urban has been great from the start. We share the same passion for luxury cars and the joy of working together. The merger of Heritage into Urban brings new opportunities for both parties and our customers. ”Patrick Meijer - CEO AM Group (parent company of Urban): “The acquisition of Heritage is a strategic move, enhancing our ability to meet the unique needs of global customers, while strengthening our market leadership position.”
A convertible top can be built into the Defender 90, with Urban’s Bespoke service allowing for custom colours and interiors. Urban hasn’t revealed how much the car will cost, but the soft-top conversion from Heritage Customs alone costs €85,000 (around $99,000).
