The Urban Widetrack Heritage Series Soft-Top, Urban Automotive's first convertible SUV based on the Land Rover Defender 90, is one of three new models to debut at the 2025 Goodwood Festival of Speed. “The Land Rover Defender is one of our most popular models, so adding this unique bespoke convertible version is exciting. The collaboration with Heritage Customs has been very successful, and I’m delighted to welcome them into the Urban family,” said Simon Dearn, founder of Urban Automotive.
Based on Heritage Customs' limited-edition Valiance convertible, this Defender is upgraded with a Widetrack exterior design package and Hermes Orange leather interior, Recaro front seats, and a custom Heritage Series dashboard. With five seats, a power-folding roof, and the legendary off-road capabilities of Land Rover... The Widetrack package includes widened wheel arches, an XRS (Extreme Road Series) hood with exposed carbon fiber air vents, a front spoiler, square DRLs, carbon fiber mirror caps, and carbon fiber accents on the side skirts in the "Best of British" style. The car is finished with 23-inch WX-2 R black alloy wheels from Urban, fitted with Yokohama Advan Sport tires.
All bespoke carbon fiber details are designed and manufactured by the Urban team in the UK, adhering to the “OEM+” philosophy ensuring superior quality, style, and durability. Heritage Customs was the first company to convert the Defender into a convertible, a process requiring hours of labor to cut the bodywork and reinforce it with a roll cage.
The partnership with Heritage Customs was so successful that Urban acquired the company, launching the Heritage line with accessories, parts, and interior customizations for its Bespoke division. Both Urban and Heritage Customs were founded by enthusiasts of high-end vehicle customization, with the Land Rover Defender at the center. Jan-Pieter Kroezen - Founder of Heritage Customs: “Partnering with Urban has been fantastic from the start. We share a passion for luxury cars and a joy in our work. The merger of Heritage into Urban creates many new opportunities for both parties and our customers.” “Patrick Meijer - CEO of AM Group (Urban’s parent company): “The acquisition of Heritage is a strategic move that enhances our ability to meet the unique needs of our global customers and strengthens our market leadership position.”
A convertible roof is possible on the Defender 90, with Urban's Bespoke service allowing for customized colors and interiors. Urban didn't disclose the cost of the conversion, but the soft-top conversion alone from Heritage Customs cost €85,000 (approximately $99,000).
