Ganh Son Fishing Village

Viewed from above, Duong - Ganh Son coastline resembles a multicolored painting. The brick-red of the undulating, hard clay mountains; the dark brown of the fishing boats; the white of the long stretch of sand; and the deep blue of the vast ocean.

The Gành Son coastline has many large, oddly shaped rocks, similar to the Bình Thạnh beach. Therefore, in the past, few people thought about developing tourism on the Duồng – Gành Son coastline. But now things are different, because people are always eager to explore and admire the natural beauty and unique charm of the Duồng – Gành Son coastal region.

The red rock mountains here rise about 20 to 25 meters above sea level. Many call them rocky mountains, but they are actually hard clay. The mountains are dark red, undulating as if recently carved, some steep and rugged, due to the effects of wind and storms over time. Some mountain ranges are also very unusual, clearly showing two colors: the upper part is dark red, while the lower part is hard, grayish-white soil like rock, looking truly beautiful and majestic. The most beautiful time is early morning at sunrise or at sunset, when the sun hangs over the mountain peaks, the dark red color reflecting onto the white sand creating a perfect picture. Today, tourists come to Gành Son not only to admire the magical beauty of nature, but also to experience the simple, genuine character of the fishermen of Duong village. They are hardworking, diligent, and industrious with their traditional fishing baskets. The Duong village of Gành Son is located right on the strait; the population is not very large, but most of them are long-time fishermen. During their free time, adults and children often go out to play, chat, sit and enjoy the cool breeze, or wait for relatives to return from the sea. The fishermen here rarely own large boats; they mainly fish near the shore. Every household owns one or two small basket boats (thúng chai) for catching squid, casting nets near the shore, or as a means of connecting with boats anchored further out. Therefore, along the Gành Son coastline, basket boats are lined up in rows, stretching for hundreds of meters; some are equipped with small marine engines, but many are only paddled by hand.

Fisherman Nguyen Hoang Thanh, from Ha Thuy 1 village, Chi Cong commune, shared: “For generations, Ganh Son has retained its pristine, rustic beauty. The red rocky mountains are like vermilion, the sea is adjacent, and in between are stretches of fine, pinkish-white sand. Ganh Son has enormous tourism potential. Recently, many tourist groups have come to camp along the beach, take photos and check in from the pristine red rocky mountains, or experience pulling nets with the fishermen; in the evening, they light bonfires for community activities… making Ganh Son beach more vibrant and the fishing village more lively. Tourist activities contribute to expanding the business awareness of the fishermen and raising awareness of maintaining the cleanliness and beauty of Ganh Son beach…”
